MLB DFS Live Before Lock (7/22): Lambert Or Bradish?
July 22, 2026
Nobody on tonight's board is projected for 15-plus fantasy points, not even Peter Lambert (COL) or Kyle Bradish (BAL), the only two pitchers on the entire DraftKings slate priced above $9,000. That's the fact Eric Lindquist keeps circling back to on MLB DFS Live Before Lock for Wednesday's nine-game main slate (17 games total across the day, including two doubleheaders), and it's why tonight isn't a jam-one-arm build. There's no true field-owned freebie at the top of the pitcher pool, so the real edge lives in how the salary gets split between the two $9K arms and a trio of leverage pitchers underneath them. One of the bats that leverage frees up is a $4,800 shortstop Lindquist calls the best play of the entire slate, and it's worth sticking around for.
Kyle Bradish — one of the featured players on today's slate.
In Summary
- Peter Lambert (COL) and Kyle Bradish (BAL) are the only two pitchers on the board above $9,000. Lindquist gives Lambert the slight edge, an indoor start at Daikin Park against a Houston Astros offense that's hunting home runs (99 park factor) mostly because Houston's own rotation is soft, not because the roof is open.
- Sandy Alcantara (MIA) is Lindquist's real anchor at 34% of his DraftKings lineups, also facing Houston, throwing to Joe Mack (MIA) instead of Liam Hicks (MIA). Mack already has four caught-stealings above average in barely a month in the majors, a real edge against a Houston running game Miami has struggled to contain.
- Aaron Nola (PHI) is the slate's headline leverage pitcher: capped at 25% of Lindquist's lineups even though he thinks the field could reasonably play him in 40-50%, and used to fade a Los Angeles Dodgers offense that's the single highest-owned stack in the Sims, yet appears in zero of his built lineups.
- Bubba Chandler (PIT) and Colin Rea (CHC) are Lindquist's two favorite tournament pitchers on the entire board: Chandler for the Yankee Stadium power environment, Rea for a 70-degree night with the wind blowing in at Wrigley Field against a swing-and-miss-heavy Detroit Tigers lineup.
- The Fades: Bradish, because he's the default $9K click Lindquist is trimming below 20% ownership as Boston's lineup keeps arriving late; and Max Fried (NYY), whose return start off the injured list came with a pre-announced mid-60s pitch count that Lindquist thinks the field is overrating at 14% owned.
- Baltimore, Boston And Cleveland are where Lindquist wants his exposure to live, with José Ramírez (CLE) at just $4,800 as the single best play of the slate and Christian Encarnacion-Strand drawing 25% of his lineups off dual first base/third base eligibility.

The Only Two Arms Above $9K
Every build tonight starts with the same fork: Peter Lambert or Kyle Bradish, the two arms priced in the $9K range with nobody else close. Lambert draws the Houston Astros indoors at Daikin Park, and Lindquist is upfront that the pick isn't about the roof. Houston's rotation is the actual reason the building has turned into a launching pad this year, with the Astros ranking top-10 in baseball against right-handed pitching and a .175 ISO that's fifth-best in the league. Bradish is the opposite profile: a genuine talent (an 11% walk rate aside) walking into Fenway Park against a Boston Red Sox team that's won 15 straight, but the lineup itself didn't post until well into the show, which is exactly the kind of late-breaking information that keeps ownership artificially low relative to how good the spot actually is.
| Pitcher | Team | Salary (DK) | Matchup | The read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peter Lambert | COL | $9K tier | at Houston Astros | Indoor start at Daikin Park; Lindquist's slight preference of the two 9K arms |
| Kyle Bradish | BAL | $9K tier | at Boston Red Sox | 11% walk rate, feast-or-famine; trimmed below 20% ownership as Boston's lineup posted late |
| Sandy Alcantara | MIA | Mid-tier | vs. Houston Astros | Lindquist's real anchor at 34% of lineups; throwing to Joe Mack over Liam Hicks matters against Houston's running game |
| Aaron Nola | PHI | N/A | vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | 27.3% K rate to lefties over the last month; the leverage play against the field's most-stacked offense |
| Bubba Chandler | PIT | $6,700 | at New York Yankees | Sub-.100 expected ISO allowed to righties over his last 30 days; funds the Dodgers and Baltimore builds |
| Colin Rea | CHC | N/A | vs. Detroit Tigers | Wind blowing in at Wrigley, 70 degrees; tied with Chandler as Lindquist's favorite tournament arm |
The number that jumps off that table is Alcantara's 34%. That's not a coin flip between two similar arms, it's a real anchor, and the tell is the catcher: Lindquist wants Joe Mack behind the plate over Liam Hicks specifically because Mack already grades as one of the best defensive catchers in the sport this early into his career, with four caught-stealings above average against a Houston running game that's given Miami trouble with Alcantara on the mound before.

Leverage Pitchers: Nola, Chandler And Rea Are Funding The Rest Of The Roster
This is the second half of the pitcher pool, and it's where the real construction decisions get made. Aaron Nola's strikeout rate against left-handed bats has climbed to 27.3% over his last month, which matters because he's on the mound against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the single most popular stack in the entire field, with a 10% top-stack share in the Sims. Lindquist is capping himself at 25% of lineups on Nola rather than the 40-50% he thinks the field could reasonably justify, because the Sims are already overweight to him and he'd rather spend the savings elsewhere. That's the whole point: play Nola, fade the Dodgers, and the money that isn't going to Yordan Alvarez (HOU) or Shohei Ohtani (LAD) one-offs goes somewhere else entirely.
Bubba Chandler is where a lot of it goes. He's started throwing a sub-.100 expected ISO to right-handed bats over his last 30 days even though the raw power numbers against him used to be a real weakness, and he's taking on a New York Yankees lineup in a small ballpark that still has genuine issues with lefty power. At $6,700, Lindquist expects to have him in north of 25-30% of his final builds, largely as the funding piece for Dodgers-fade lineups and Baltimore stacks alike. Colin Rea gets almost the same billing for a completely different reason: a 70-degree night with the wind blowing straight in at Wrigley Field, against a Detroit Tigers lineup loaded with swing-and-miss bats. Lindquist and the Sims are both overweight to Rea and Chandler, and by the end of the show he's leaning toward pairing the two of them together in single-entry rather than picking just one.
FanDuel Is Missing Four Teams Entirely
Here's the part that reshapes everything on the other site: FanDuel simply doesn't have the Orioles-Red Sox game or the Yankees-Pirates game on its board tonight. Baltimore, Boston, the Yankees and Pittsburgh don't exist as roster options at all, which means half of Lindquist's favorite DraftKings stacks are unplayable over there. Because FanDuel is also a single-pitcher format, ownership concentrates differently. Alcantara alone projects at 25% owned on FanDuel, which is a bigger single-arm commitment than his 34% share of a two-pitcher DraftKings roster actually represents.
That gap in coverage is also what pushes Michael King (SD) up FanDuel's pitcher rankings in a way he'd never sniff on DraftKings. King's strikeout stuff has been mostly absent this year, but FanDuel rewards a win and a quality-start bonus in a way DraftKings doesn't, and King's outs prop moved from 17.5 down to 16.5 during the show, settling at roughly even money for the quality start. Lindquist ranks him third among FanDuel arms, behind only Alcantara and Lambert, purely because of that scoring quirk. With Baltimore, Boston and New York off the board, the two stacks Lindquist likes most on FanDuel are Houston (the same Alcantara/Lambert overlap from DraftKings) and a Philadelphia Phillies look built around Kyle Schwarber (PHI), Bryce Harper (PHI) and Trea Turner (PHI), all sitting lower-owned than Alvarez despite a real case against a lefty who hasn't limited left-handed power all season.
Where The Bats Live: Baltimore, Boston And Cleveland
Lindquist's stated priority list for hitters is unambiguous: Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, in that order of conviction, with a slight lean toward Baltimore. Boston's appeal grows specifically because its lineup posted late, the same information-edge logic that lowers Bradish's ownership works in reverse for the bats hitting against him. Wilyer Abreu (BOS), Jarren Duran (BOS) and Ceddanne Rafaela (BOS) are the pieces Lindquist keeps coming back to once Boston's lineup finally loads. On the Baltimore side, Gunnar Henderson (BAL) isn't an exciting click on his own. Lindquist says as much, and prefers Trea Turner's pure projection at shortstop elsewhere on the slate, but Henderson still has to be in the build simply because it's hard to stack Baltimore's lineup without him.
Cleveland's Must-Have Stack Against Bailey Ober
Cleveland is the stack Lindquist is most locked in on, and the case is built entirely around one pitcher: Bailey Ober (MIN). Ober has posted a 38.5% strikeout rate recently, and 26% specifically against left-handed bats, both numbers Lindquist expects to regress hard given Ober's track record and a Cleveland Guardians lineup that isn't actually strikeout-prone at the top.
| Player | Team | Salary (DK) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| José Ramírez | CLE | $4,800 | Lindquist's best play of the slate, a price he calls a steal relative to the player |
| Travis Bazzana | CLE | $4,100 | Bumped down in the order but still projected for three at-bats against Ober |
| Chase DeLauter | CLE | N/A | Strikeout-immune bat Lindquist wants in every version of the stack |
| Brayan Rocchio | CLE | N/A | Rounds out the "must-have four" alongside Ramírez, DeLauter and Bazzana |
| Kyle Manzardo | CLE | N/A | Deeper Cleveland piece, batting sixth |
That $4,800 number on Ramírez is the one worth sitting with. Lindquist doesn't soft-pedal it. He calls it the best play of the entire slate, a price point he says he'd happily pay $6,000 for on a normal night, in a spot where the pitcher he's facing is bleeding strikeouts to a lineup that shouldn't be striking out against him at all. Bazzana, the No. 4-overall rookie second baseman, adds a lower-owned, cheaper way into the same read even after a lineup shuffle knocked him out of the leadoff spot.
The Fades: Bradish, Fried And A Dodgers Stack Nobody's Building
This is the payoff of everything above. Kyle Bradish is good enough that his ownership will still show up as one of the two default 9K clicks on the slate, but Lindquist is trimming himself below 20% as Boston's bats pull more of his attention. Max Fried is the clearer fade: his first start back from the injured list came with a known mid-60s pitch-count plan, and Lindquist has him at 0% of his own lineups against a field he expects to land closer to 14% owned, a real gap between what the field is pricing in and what the pitch-count news actually means for his fantasy ceiling.
And then there's the Dodgers. It's the highest-owned stack in the entire field's Sims, a 10% top-stack share, more than anyone else on the board, and it does not appear in a single one of Lindquist's built lineups. That's the direct payoff of the Nola leverage play from earlier: pay for the pitcher who beats them, and there's no reason to also pay for the lineup he's beating.
Worked Example: Splitting The 9K Pool
Lindquist ran this exact comparison live on air. He built one lineup around Bubba Chandler and Aaron Nola together, avoiding the Baltimore and Boston chalk entirely, then re-simulated the same roster with a chalkier Peter Lambert swapped in for Chandler to see what actually changed. The two versions came back very close in simulated outcome, which told him the Chandler-Nola pairing isn't just cute contrarianism. It's trimming a meaningful amount of ownership duplication without giving up real equity, since Baltimore itself wasn't pulling extreme ownership either way. That's the same math behind pairing Rea and Chandler together late in the show instead of picking just one: when two leverage arms grade out close to even, the one that lets you build a more unique roster around it wins the click.
The Through-Line
Every read tonight traces back to the same opening fact: with nobody projected for 15-plus fantasy points and only two arms above $9,000, there's no true freebie at the top of this pool. That forces a real decision on both $9K arms (lean Lambert, fade Bradish down) and turns Nola, Chandler and Rea into the pitchers who actually decide where the salary goes. Nola funds the Dodgers fade. Chandler and Rea fund Baltimore, Boston and Cleveland. And Cleveland is where the single best click of the night lives, a $4,800 José Ramírez, in a spot where the opposing pitcher's own recent strikeout numbers are the outlier the rest of tonight's build is chasing.
