Pitchers 9/8 ⚾️💪
The trio at the top is hard to parse, with Tarik Skubal, Jacob Misiorowski and Cam Schlittler all apex aces. Let personal preference be your guide and know that a lot of gamers will roster two of the three on DK, where that are enough viable sub-$3.0k punt hitters to put forth competent lineups.
Sean Burke vs PIT 4.1 runs: In his last 14 starts, Burke's "worst" outings were a pair of 4-ER efforts, which is a blip when considering he has ceded one or fewer runs in 8 of the other 12 starts. Other than Oneil Cruz and Rafael Flores, the rest of the Bucs have struggled against righties over the last month. This will not be a walk in the park as there should be at least six lefties in the lineup, which is the kryptonite for Burke. The price is right as a DK SP2, with a hefty discount allowing for 3-4 significant hitter upgrades compared to the rosters anchored by two of the top projected aces.
Quinn Mathews at SFG 3.9 runs: Aside from a 7-run mound meltdown @PHI in his third career start, Mathews has allowed just five runs in the other four tilts. He has 209.1 Triple-A innings to his credit, so this is graduation time for the safe, though less than spectacular prospect. Facing the thinned out Giants is further enhanced by the Bay Area weather.
Landen Roupp vs STL 4.1 runs: Walks are the worry with Roupp, as evidenced by a whopping 34 in his last 58.1 IP, with a very mediocre 42 Ks. He is another DK ($7.4k) salary saver, with the hope he has positive DFS production and pushes towards 12-to-15 DKFP a third of the time.
Top Stacks 9/8 ⚾️🎇
TOR at LHP Jack Perkins 5.6 runs: Big league hitters in a minor league park can get to aces, much like we saw with Dylan Cease last night. Perkins is not even in the same universe as Cease and we can see that while he is not a horrible pitcher with a 4.66 ERA on the road since the start of last year, he cannot hide his fly ball tendencies in Sutter Health Park as evidenced by his 6.94 ERA at home in the same period. Though the Blue Jays have scored the fourth fewest runs on the season, they have flown up the rankings with a league average rate. Trust the process and the park effects.
NYY vs RHP Gabriel Hughes 5.1 runs: Both of Hughes' 7-run mound meltdowns in August came on the road, where he has allowed 18 runs in his last 12.2 IP as compared to four in 9.2 Coors Field frames. Yes, this is a small sample size, but a young pitcher who is struggling, facing the Bronx Bombers in Yankee Stadium is someone to pick on. #Analysis
CHW vs RHP Bubba Chandler 4.6 runs: Chandler suffers greatly against opposite-handed batsmen with a .194 Iso this season that has leapt to .250 over the last month. He also has an 11.8 BB% for the season across hitters of either-handedness and the ChiSox have good plate discipline for the most part, including their boppers who are also swinging for the fences leading to acceptable all or nothing outcomes. Munetaka Murakami and Colson Montgomery are the foundational plays, with righty Miguel Vargas then followed by the rest of the lefties.
