Nothing better than Friday night football under the lights, and with two games scheduled this evening, we get a nice appetizer-sized DraftKings slate before the main course kicks off tomorrow at noon. Unlike most college football slates that have 10+ games and multiple good options at every position, this slate is the exact opposite. With only a few ‘locks’, be prepared to use players you wouldn’t even be looking at on a normal main slate. This article will provide college football DFS picks and lineup advice for the DraftKings slate on Sept. 16 that locks at 7:30 p.m. ET. Â
College Football DFS: Week 3 Saturday CFB Picks
Quarterback
Malik Cunningham, Louisville ($7,500) — It’s slim pickings at every position this week and that’s especially true at quarterback with only four viable signal callers to choose from. Cunningham still hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass this season, but his rushing ability is what pays the bills and he showed that last week, rushing for 121 yards in a big come-from-behind win against Central Florida. Cunningham almost always has the highest ceiling on any slate he’s on and with only three other quarterbacks in play, he looks like a lock in all formats at a way-too-cheap $7,500 price tag.
Other Quarterbacks: Jordan Travis, Florida State ($8,000); Haaziq Daniels, Air Force ($6,000)
Running Backs
Brad Roberts, Air Force ($7,600) — Perhaps the top overall play on the slate, Roberts has looked phenomenal so far this season and he’s in another great spot Friday night in Wyoming. After another monster performance last week against Colorado, Roberts has now rushed for 288 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Falcons to a 2-0 record. Wyoming has been pretty solid against the run this season, so while Roberts might not be a lock if this game were on a main slate, it’s not. Even in a tougher matchup, he’s far and away the top running back on the board.
Treshaun Ward, Florida State ($5,100) — With Florida State currently a 2.5-point favorite in a game with a 57.5-point total, we definitely need some exposure here and Ward at $5,100 is a great place to start. Averaging 16.6 DraftKings points per game for the 2-0 Seminoles, Ward looks to have separated himself from Lawrence Toafili as Florida State’s lead running back and that’s good news for the sophomore from Plant City, Florida. Projected for just under 14 DraftKings points this week, Ward looks like a nice cog in our machine in all formats on a slate with limited options.
Other Running Backs: Tiyon Evans, Louisville ($6,700); Trey Benson, Florida State ($6,000); Titus Swen, Wyoming ($5,900); John Lee Eldridge, Air Force ($4,900)
Wide Receivers
Tyler Hudson, Louisville ($7,900) — The top wideout on the slate, Hudson looks like a definite must-play in all formats. Projected for over two more DraftKings points than the next closest receiver on the board, Hudson has established himself as Cunningham’s clear top target and downfield threat. He’s expensive at $7,900, but given the context of the slate he’s more than affordable and a true fade at your own risk in both cash games and tournaments.
Ontaria Wilson, Florida State ($3,700) — Perhaps the top value play at any position, Wilson is hard to get away from at his cheap $3,700 price tag. While he isn’t a one-man show anymore with Mycah Pittman now in the fold after transferring from Oregon, Wilson will still definitely get his from quarterback Jordan Travis as evidenced by the monster performance he put up last week in Baton Rouge. Seven catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns against a stout LSU defense isn’t too shabby and considering he’s priced like a backup wideout, I don’t think we can lock him in fast enough.
Other Wide Receivers: Mycah Pittman, Florida State ($6,700); Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, Louisville ($5,600); Joshua Cobbs, Wyoming ($4,800); Wyatt Weiland, Wyoming ($4,100)
