For only a 9-game main slate, there are a lot of viable pitching options for tournaments tonight. Here are 3 pitchers that I (Tommienation1) am considering for my GPP lineup, but make sure to check back before lock, as Awesemo will update this article with some notes of his own!
Chris Sale ($12,000 DK/$11,500 FD)
Sale is going to be an option almost every slate he pitches, and this matchup gives him a lot of K upside even though he’ll be facing mostly righties for the A’s. They have 6 players who have struck out over 25% against lefty pitching since the start of last season, so a Chris Sale that already looks like he’s in midseason form should be able to rack up strikeouts with ease tonight. You’ll have to break the bank to play him, but he provides the highest floor and the highest upside on this slate, so he’s well worth the price on both sites.
Zack Godley ($8,800 DK/$9,300 FD)
Godley has had an inconsistent start to the year with both his advanced stats and his DFS results with two starts below a 10% Swinging-Strike rate and one start over 20, posting 3, 9, and 4 strikeouts in those starts. I think we see a great Godley performance tonight against the Padres, who are top-5 in all of Swinging-Strike%, O-Swing%, and Swing%. If you’re going to chase pitches against Godley (and the Padres have shown they will), he’s going to make you pay with his fantastic 31% Whiff/Swing rate.
Garrett Richards ($7,700 DK/$8,400 FD)
It seems like every day we are recommending using pitchers against the Giants, and that will be no different tonight. Richards is a volatile pitcher, but he is certainly viable for tournaments tonight against a very impatient Giants team. Richards ranks 20th in Whiffs/Swing on the season, and the reason he gets in trouble a lot of the time is because of walks. However, a Giants team that is swinging the bat more than anyone on this young season seems like a great matchup for Richards, who has a lot of game-to-game strikeout upside.
Awesemo’s Notes
I am going to be with Jake tonight breaking the bank for Sale; there’s plenty of value bats and stacks to get him in a lineup. I like Garrett and Godley as great options tonight on DraftKings but I’m going to stick with Sale and other aces on FanDuel.
