Early May in the Northeast is always a question mark when it comes to weather, and the golfers that teed it up last week at the Wells Fargo Championship got the worst of it. But now the PGA Tour heads to Texas for the AT&T Bryon Nelson 2022, where the weather shouldn’t be an issue. It’s one of two stops in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area in the next three weeks. The tour is just one week away from the second major of the year — the PGA Championship at Southern Hills. In years past, that would typically hurt the tournament the week before, but with Dallas and Tulsa being just a four-hour drive away, half of the world’s top 14 are here to compete. That’s a great get for the tournament, which had struggled to get top players and flip-flopped venues a few times as well. This year, it’s being held for the second straight year at TPC Craig Ranch. The course, designed by Tom Weiskopf, has been host to plenty of professional events throughout its history. This was one of the easiest courses last year, as it had a -26 winner in K.H. Lee. This year, expect more of the same at the rather generous layout of TPC Craig Ranch. The easiest hole on the course is the 18th, which yielded 14 eagles and 243 birdies over the week. The par-5 fifth had more eagles (19) but fewer birdies (220) than the 18th.
AT&T Byron Nelson 2022 PGA DFS Player Preview
As mentioned earlier, half of the world’s top 15 golfers are here to compete, including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. He has had an incredible run this season, getting his first, second and third wins in the last few months, and it has jumped him from a potential star to a bona fide superstar. Best friends Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas will also join Scheffler, and Spieth is looking to maintain his high level of play over the next few weeks. He’ll be in the primary focus of the media next week at the PGA Championship as he looks to complete the career grand slam.
Sam Burns has an early price bump based on his second-place finish here last year and he is coming in shorter in the golf betting odds market than Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama, to name a few. Xander Schauffele will also look to maintain his winning ways as he looks to win a PGA Tour event for the first time (without a partner) in over three years. His card is quite funny, as he’s won a few times over the last three years but hasn’t gotten “credit” for any of them. He won the 2020 Tour Championship, but he actually finished second because of the starting handicap in the event. He won the gold medal at the Olympics and won the team event with Patrick Cantlay last week. Indeed, Schauffele has the most interesting set of wins any player has on the PGA Tour over the last few years.
Strokes Gained Review for the AT&T Byron Nelson 2022
Last year Lee put up one of the highest point totals and didn’t even gain two strokes off the tee. Even more glaring, though, is the fact that four golfers that were in the top 10 lost strokes around the green for the week, as the emphasis on off the tee and around the green were greatly diminished. Every single golfer that finished tied for 17th or better in the event (20 players) gained strokes putting except one: Will Zalatoris.
