Week 15 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Rashaad Penny & Royce Freeman

The good news is that no more teams will have byes starting in Week 15. The bad news is that injuries and COVID-19 cases piling up across the league might still have many fantasy managers scrambling for reinforcements. With that in mind, here are some players to consider adding who are still available in the majority of leagues. You can also use our Waiver Wire Pickups tool to help find viable options and determine how much of your FAAB you might need to use for each player.

Fantasy Football: Week 15 NFL Waiver Wire Pickups

Rashaad Penny, Seattle Seahawks (91% available)

The writing was on the wall after Week 13 when Penny received 10 carries against the 49ers. It was the most he had received in a game this season, and while he only finished with 35 yards, the Seahawks were looking to make a change in their struggling running game. His workload increased to 16 carries in Week 14, which he turned into 137 yards and two touchdowns. A matchup against the Texans certainly helped his cause. He will have a much more difficult road ahead of him against the Rams in Week 15, but with his likely leading role now, he is still an appealing option.

Week 15 Waiver Wire Priority: 1 (10%-15% of FAAB budget)

Royce Freeman, Houston Texans (99% available)

The Texans are running out of healthy players at running back. David Johnson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday and Rex Burkhead suffered a groin injury that forced him out of Sunday’s matchup against the Seahawks. That left Freeman to receive 11 carries and eight targets. He could only muster up 15 yards on the ground, but he did finish with six receptions for 51 yards. Johnson could be out for Week 15, as well, given that he was just placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday. If Burkhead is also forced to sit out, Freeman could have a leading role against the porous Jaguars’ defense.

Week 15 Waiver Wire Priority: 2 (3%-5% of FAAB budget)

Russell Gage, Atlanta Falcons (55% available)

Another week, another productive stat line from Gage. Facing a Panthers defense that has allowed the fewest passing yards per game in the league, Gage caught four of six targets for 64 yards. He has registered at least 62 yards receiving in four of his last six games and he has 33 targets over the last four games. As long as Calvin Ridley (personal) remains sidelined, Gage should receive enough volume on a weekly basis to be a viable WR3 option in fantasy, regardless of his opponent.

Week 15 Waiver Wire Priority: 3 (1%-3% of FAAB budget)

K.J. Osborn, Minnesota Vikings (73% available)

An injury to Adam Thielen (ankle) left an increased workload for Osborn against the Steelers on Thursday. He did not disappoint, finishing with three catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. Maybe the most encouraging stat was his nine targets. Thielen will have had added time to rest, but if he is out again, Osborn could be worth deploying for a matchup against a Bears team that is tied for the fourth-most passing touchdowns allowed in the league.

Week 15 Waiver Wire Priority: 4 (1%-3% of FAAB budget)

Donovan Peoples-Jones, Cleveland Browns (91% available)

The Browns do not normally throw the ball a lot, which leaves Peoples-Jones with limited upside. He received a season-high seven targets Sunday against the Ravens, though, catching five of them for 90 yards. Week 15 brings a matchup against a Raiders team that is tied for the fourth-most passing touchdowns allowed in the league, so Peoples-Jones might be worth taking a chance on in deeper leagues.

Week 15 Waiver Wire Priority: 5 (1% of FAAB budget)

Craig Reynolds, Detroit Lions (99% available)

It is getting ugly at running back for the Lions. Arguably their greatest position of strength on offense, they were without both D’Andre Swift (should) and Jamaal Williams (COVID-19) versus the Broncos. That left Reynolds to receive his first carries of the year. He turned 11 of them into 83 yards, which likely earned him more work if Swift and Williams are both out again.

Week 15 Waiver Wire Priority: 6 (1% of FAAB budget)

Josh Reynolds, Detroit Lions (96% available)

Reynolds did not have a monster stat line Sunday, but he was useful in fantasy again, catching three of five targets for 52 yards. He has totaled at least that many yards receiving in three straight games, also racking up 17 targets over that stretch. The Lions might be forced to throw a lot in an attempt to keep up with the Cardinals in Week 15, and with the expectation that Reynolds should be one of their primary receiving options, he could provide value.

Week 15 Waiver Wire Priority: 7 (1% of FAAB budget)
