The last season that Ja’Marr Chase played at the college level was 2019. During the 2020 college football season tons of players opted out, Chase is one of them. In that 2019 season for LSU, Ja’Marr Chase had 84 receptions on 111 targets for 1,780 receiving yards (21.2 ypr) and 20 receiving touchdowns. All this while having a 19.6% target share in an offense that included NFL breakout, Justin Jefferson. Despite this year-long absence from football, Chase still earned the top wide receiver selected in the NFL Draft.

Looking towards this season, there are some question marks for Ja’Marr Chase. Which are even further emphasized by his average draft position being relatively high. Coming off the board as wide receiver 22, around the likes of his teammate Tee Higgins, Brandon Aiyuk, Diontae Johnson, and Adam Thielen to name a few. The reason behind the question marks of Chase has to do with what could be rust. Had he played last season, we may have seen this not be an issue? In training camp, Ja’Marr Chase is struggling immensely at getting separation, which can be ironed out but with the season being less than a month away. But the risk of taking him as a top 24 wide receiver still remains. Tee Higgins could easily outscore him, same goes with Tyler Boyd who goes a few rounds later. Until we get more word out of camp that is positive on Chase, avoid him at his current draft price.
