McLaurin’s Production in 2020
While McLaurin was not a disappointment last year, he did not deliver on the top-12 hopes many had for him. He finished with 134 targets (ninth among receivers) and 87 receptions (15th) for 1,118 yards (11th) and four touchdowns (48th). He also had a dominant target share of 25.5% and a 23.6% red zone target share.

Washington’s 2020 quarterback situation could be described as a carousel. They began with Dwayne Haskins, who won just one game in the first four starts. Then came Kyle Allen, who played four games just like Haskins. Finally, Alex Smith returned to win two games. Taylor Heinicke got the nod in the playoffs after Smith was hurt again. And during all of this confusion in the quarterback room, McLaurin was still consistent even when the quarterback play was not.
In 2021 the quarterback situation is so much clearer. Haskins is gone, and Washington acquired Ryan Fitzpatrick. While Fitzpatrick will have his ups and downs throughout the season, he is a step up from the quarterbacks from last year. He also has the confidence to launch the ball to McLaurin even if he is not open. If Fitzpatrick struggles, Washington could look to switch to Heinicke.
McLaurin’s Outlook in 2021
Just like going in last year’s drafts, McLaurin will once again be a top-15 wide receiver in most leagues. And with more stable quarterback play and another year in the Ron Rivera system, his ADP should pay off this time around. McLaurin slots in as the alpha wide receiver with not much competition around him. While Curtis Samuel is a fine player, and they brought in Dyami Brown via the draft, it is clear McLaurin is Washington’s undisputed No. 1 target. If anything, the extra wide receiver help should draw coverage away from McLaurin. As long as Fitzpatrick dials in on McLaurin as he did with DeVante Parker in 2019, McLaurin could compete for a top-10 season at th position. Even if he does not reach that ceiling, he is still a reliable option.
