Spotlight Hitters KBO DFS Picks on DraftKings + FanDuel | Friday June 19

We got KBO DFS weather right for a change! Getting out of the Dinos game was critical last night, anyone who went to bed early with them in lineups woke up to unhappy news. The game was called far enough in advance of lock that most KBO DFS players should have been able to adapt, so there wasn’t a total wipe-out of a block of lineups like we’ve seen with later postponements.

The games that did play last night were a bit up and down with three teams putting up big scores, two of them from atop the stack rankings in LG and Doosan. The surprise bats on the night were the suddenly frisky Hanwha Eagles, who gamely put up 7 runs in a 9-7 losing effort.

The pitching on the slate began and ended with the dominant Dan Straily. Straily’s 12 strikeout performance basically lapped the field in DFS scoring. This gave Straily the top two strikeout performances in the KBO so far this season, but he didn’t come away with the win with the Giants falling 3-2 in 10 innings.

KBO DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Hitters

Tonight, we get a new set of matchups heading into the weekend. There are some terrific pitching spots today and runs look like they’ll be at something of a premium. The “right” bats are going to be pretty popular and obvious plays tonight, so it will be huge if we can uncover a less likely stack that might be overlooked.

The bulk of this analysis comes directly from reviewing Awesemo’s KBO DFS projections and the top stacks tool. Check out the rest of our KBO content, Awesemo’s projections, rankings, and ownership on the site for all your KBO DFS needs.

As usual, I’m going to look game by game, calling out a hitter or two from each team, and giving some top stacking options as we go. Pricing and popularity will be considered, more so as KBO DFS trends begin to emerge over the coming weeks. The numbers included with Suggested Stack are the projected lineup positions I would target for stacking that team, but do not restrict yourself exclusively to those spots. For example, if it says Wyverns 3-6 it means 3,4,5,6 in the projected lineup. If it says 1-2-3-5 it means those guys. If it means a two-man it will say so. I’m also going to start trying to include positions more, hopefully it helps speed up the process of finding guys as you build lineups.

With lock still hours away (5:30am), official lineups have not been released, so be sure to double-check status before you plug players into your lineup.

Hanwha Eagles @ NC Dinos – 9.5 run total (3.28/6.54) – Suggested Stack: Dinos 3-7

So, it seems like the Eagles made the right move with the crazy 10-man overhaul. They haven’t turned things around much in the win column, but they’re at least scoring and hitting the ball a bit. They made a trade this week to re-acquire Soo-Kwang Noh who led off last night and should do the same tonight, and they continue tinkering with the roster to find a winning formula. Good luck with that tonight.

The Eagles draw NC ace and class of the KBO Chang-mo Koo. The best pitcher against by far the worst lineup, this should be a bloodbath. The Dinos are the biggest favorite of the season here and I have no argument against that. If you want to play Eagles bats on a purely contrarian basis against a widely owned starter, good luck to you. If that’s the plan you should focus on the top half of the lineup. Noh ($6/$2,800), Yong-kyu Lee ($8/$3,700), Tae-kyun Kim ($7/$3,200), and Jaredy Hoying ($9/$4,800) are all at reasonable prices with a few gaps in between that you can take or leave.

The Dinos bats look great here once again. I think the low game total might be doing us a favor keeping people off Dinos stacks to the degree they should be on them, but they’ll still no doubt be a popular play as the top ranked stack. There is nothing to worry about in Eagles starter, the appropriately named, Bum-soo Kim. This Bum has some issues keeping runners off the base paths and struggles with keeping the ball on the correct side of the fence. Runners on base and a home run prone pitcher against the league’s best lineup at an slight ownership advantage? Sign me up twice. I still like Aaron Altherr ($16/$5,200) to move up in the lineup again, but even if he doesn’t the late-lineup stack with him Suk-min Park ($10/$4,900) and Jin-sung Kang ($15/$4,400) plays great with or without the popular big bats in the middle, or with either end of this batting order.

Lotte Giants @ KT Wiz – 10.0 run total (4.80/5.42) – Suggested Stack: Wiz 3-7

The Giants played a deceptively good game last night that must have frustrated Dan Straily during his dominant pitching performance. Wasting 10 hits by only managing to scratch out 2 runs, the Giants took the loss and now arrive to play the Wiz as the losers of two straight. The Wiz are on a bit of a roll, coming off a three-game sweep of SK.

The Giants are the underdogs on the road tonight, landing them in the middle of the top stack tool, and the implied team total under 5 runs leaves something to be desired. The lineup has quality and Wiz starter Je-seong Bae has gotten away with a lot so far this year, his FIP of over four is more than a run higher than his earned run average, he walks too many and strikes out too few. There’s opportunity here but the popularity makes it a challenge. Dixon Machado ($10/$4,300) continues to swing a hot bat with a three hit game that didn’t register much with KBO DFS owners last night. Chi-hong An ($9/$3,300) returned from injury and should be hitting seventh in the lineup tonight. That’s a quality bat in a spot that will potentially get overlooked, putting him in play to differentiate things in this lineup. Keep an eye on the back and forth at the leadoff spot between Byung-hun Min ($9/$3,600) and Hoon Jung ($9/$3,900) either functions as a quality option, but if you can get the lower-owned of the two leading off, it could be advantageous.

The Wiz look to be in a great spot again here tonight, not drawing close to enough ownership with a gas can starter on the mound for Lotte I think there’s opportunity for the Wiz bats to come through for us in a big way, if the ownership stays low I’ll be all over this spot. Mel Rojas Jr. ($16/$5,500) and Baek-ho Kang ($16/$5,900) are the two bats the KBO DFS public will be on, but even then, not to an unplayable degree. Adding Yong-ho Jo ($8/$2,800), Jeong-dae Bae ($9/$2,900) in either order atop this lineup should be a good addition to your stack, you can play both or and one of Han-joon Yoo ($12/$3,600) or Jae-gyun Hwang ($9/$5,200) to round things out. Hwang looks to have a pricing inefficiency between the two sites, with a much lower number on FanDuel tonight. The positioning on DraftKings is inconvenient with a lot of these guys landing in the outfield, but you can mix and match to make at least three-mans work here. A five-man building down from the middle also plays.

Doosan Bears @ LG Twins – 10.0 run total (4.86/5.36) – Suggested Stack: Twins 2-6

This should be a great series. The rival Bears and Twins both play their home games in Seoul, sharing Jamsil Stadium, and tonight they find themselves second and third in the standings, with the Twins three games up on the Bears for second. A sweep here and things are neck and neck.

The Bears are the visiting team in their home park tonight, facing Woo-chan Cha, one of the Twins top starters. The Bears are pushed down the top stack tool a bit by the match-up and implied run total here, landing in the middle of the rankings at too much DraftKings ownership. They’re more playable on FanDuel. There are plenty of obvious bats among the top five in this lineup, and they make for a good straight-line stack if you don’t mind eating some chalk. The bottom-end of the batting order offers a few quality pivots in Soo-bin Jung ($7/$2,800) and Se-hyuk Park ($7/$3,100). Keep an eye on who starts between In-tae Kim ($5/$2,400) and Hae-sung Kuk. Play Kim, fade Kuk. I’m aware of and ignoring the easy joke there.

The Twins are popping at the top of the stacks tool again tonight after pounding the Eagles for 9 runs yesterday. Bob Ramos is back in the order and back crushing Awesemo’s projections here. Ramos struck out twice and walked three times in an uneventful performance in his return last night, but KBO DFS players will be undaunted in jamming him into lineups again tonight. The masher is currently clocking a ludicrous ownership of over 70% on both sites. All of the Twins will be very popular and tough to get to on DraftKings. On FanDuel you can at least utilize bats like Kang-nam Yoo ($8/$3,900) and Ju-hyeon Jung ($9/$2,500) from later in the lineup to differentiate some of the more popular plays like Ramos and Hyun-soo Kim ($14/$5,400).

SK Wyverns @ Kiwoom Heroes –9.5 run total (4.54/5.16) – Suggested Stack: Heroes 1-5

In what should be a series of get-right games for the Heroes, the cellar-dwelling Wyverns come to town to take on the diminished but still favored Kiwoom team. A game total under 10 and both teams landing in the bottom half of the stack rankings gives this one a “meh” kind of feeling for KBO DFS though.

Hyun-hee Han has made a few shaky starts this season for the Heroes, I see no reason to expect him to be suddenly great, so there’s some limited opportunity here for the Wyverns bats. You’re not drawing to anything special by playing them, they don’t rank or project very well, but they aren’t wildly popular and could make a playable second stack. Ja-wook Ko ($7/$4,200) and Eui-yoon Jeong ($7/$2,400) make quality bookends to the two big bats in the middle. I think I would prefer adding Kang-min Kim ($7/$3,100) to that from the sixth spot over the leadoff hitter here.

The Heroes are a quality lineup and they get Dong-won Park ($10/$5,300) back tonight. The top half of this lineup is playable, but the Wyverns’ starter isn’t awful. This is an OK spot but nothing I’m getting too excited about. The ownership doesn’t look too overwhelming on any individuals here and strung together they could make for unique constructions. The bats from one through seven should be in play in various combinations and they provide some positional flexibility on DraftKings, adding to their appeal a bit. Keon-chang Seo ($11/$3,800) and Hye-sung Kim ($9/$2,400) are great ways to get things started up top along with Park. Jeong-hyeop Heo ($7/$2,000) is in play as a potential point of differentiation for constructions if he’s hitting sixth at that pricing.

Samsung Lions @ Kia Tigers –8.5 run total (3.89/4.80) – Suggested Stack: Tigers 2-3-4

The Lions and Tigers are duking it out tonight in a battle for feline supremacy and placement in the middle of KBO standings. This one looks pretty ugly for bats as far as KBO DFS owners go, in the second of two big pitching spots.

In a bit of bad luck, the Lions get the starter who was scheduled in last night’s rain out, import Drew Gagnon. Gagnon has been tearing up KBO hitters so far, ranking third in the league in strikeout percentage after Dan Straily’s gem last night. Gagnon has a dazzling 2.53 FIP on the year, a full run lower than his earned run average. The Lions just don’t have the bats to counter with here and they rank next to last in standings. I would look to a small deployment of the heart of this lineup if someone was pulling a National Lampoon cover move with my dog, forcing me to play them, but under no other circumstances. If that’s your predicament, look to Ja-wook Koo ($9/$4,900), Tyler Saladino ($9/$4,600), and Won-seok Lee ($8/$4,300). Two additional Lees hit fifth and sixth and are also playable if you feel like shaking things up. I wouldn’t.

The Tigers are heavy favorites here but with a low game total they aren’t pulling more than five implied runs, and it just seems like there are better spots than targeting Lions import starter David Buchanan. Buchanan has been rolling his last four starts, though he doesn’t rack up the strikeouts like his fellow import starters, ranking 28th among 39 qualified KBO starters in strikeout percentage this year. The Tigers bats don’t excite here however, they rank near the bottom of the stacks tool. The only advantage would be a slight ownership discrepancy on DraftKings, but it’s not enough to make me want to pounce on it. Getting some of our usual favorites up top is OK here. Preston Tucker ($17/$5,600), Hyung-woo Choi ($10/$5,000), and Ji-wan Na ($9/$3,600) make their usual playable trio. Joo-chan Kim ($3,700) works as an attachment to the back end as well. I would be cautious in rolling this one out on either site though, you’re more likely to find quality by adding exposure to better spots.

Favorite KBO DFS Stack: NC Dinos (love the Wiz at low ownership too!)
