The Bachelor’s Chris Randone Draftkings and Fanduel MLB DFS Roses of the Day

Welcome to Roses of the Day!

My name is Chris Randone and If you ever watched The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, then you know getting a rose means everything. It symbolize’s the guy or girl giving them out likes you. Getting a rose means you survive to keep fighting for love. Well in daily fantasy sports it’s no different. We go through a list of players deciding who will survive and make the cut into our lineups. These players fight to help us win. A true definition of love. I’ve learned being on the show that you never give out roses just for fun, there has to be a meaning behind it. We’ll take that same approach here. Tonight’s rose ceremony I’ll be given my Top Stack, Top Pitcher, and Surprise Play of the main slate.

Top Stack:

Yankees, will you accept this rose?

Facing the worst projected pitcher (Mike Leake) on the slate, Yankees bats outside of (Voit & Andujar) don’t seem to be popular.  This surprises me considering the Yankees have the highest run implied total (5.5) on tonight’s slate. New York ranks top ten in HR (23), wOBA (.336), and wRC+ (109) vs RHP at home. Yankees will account for 7 right handers in the lineup and Mike Leake has not fared well against right-handed hitters this year (6 HRs, .373 avg over 67 batters faced). He’s also giving up a career high 44.9% hard contact. He’ll get a ballpark downgrade pitching in Yankee Stadium compared to Safeco. Both Tauchman (.441) & Gary Sanchez (.414) rank in the top 15 ISO against RHP at home. Clint Frazier crushes right-handed pitching, and has already recorded 5 home runs over 22 hits (.338 avg) across 65 at-bats.

Top Pitcher:

Rich Hill , will you accept this rose?

Rich Hill takes the mound at home in the late game against the beat up Nationals. Hill hasn’t returned to normal yet since coming off of rehab. It’s only been two starts but before being recalled up, Hill struck out 16 batters in 6 IP.  Rich Hill is no stranger to striking out batters (30.4 K% in 2018) and with all the injuries in Washington (Turner, Soto, Zimmerman, Adams) their lineup doesn’t bring much fear. Michael Taylor is striking out at a rate of 47.6% this year. Combined that with the pitcher spot in the lineup, that accounts for 2 spots with easy K upside. Yan Gomes, Dozier, and Robels are all striking out over 28% on the season. Washington ranks bottom five in hard contact (28.5%), their team strikeout rate (27%) ranks bottom ten, and their tiny 3.7 implied run total (lowest on the slate) gives a good matchup scenario for Hill tonight.

Cheap Surprise Play:

Wade Miley, will you accept this rose?

Miley will take the mound against the rangers at home tonight and Texas has failed to find success against LHP on the road this season. Tonight they hold a 4.4 implied run total which tells me Vegas doesn’t expect too much out of them. Rangers are striking out 34% of the time against southpaws on the road. Although Miley holds a 13.9% K-rate, he hasn’t been bad at home this season. His cutter has held good velocity and has translated into a ton of ground ball outs. Texas ranks bottom five in ISO (.107) and wOBA (.251) against LHP on the road.
