DraftKings & FanDuel MLB DFS Picks Today (6/3)

Top Stack: Guardians at LHP Bruce Zimmermann — 4.3 implied runs

Cleveland is among the best choices in the Awesemo Stack Tool, and they will likely be the fourth or fifth option at best with most gamers looking at Coors Field or with the Blue Jays in a cherry matchup against RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez. Bruce Zimmermann has now allowed nine home runs in his last 10.1 innings, including five against the Red Sox in Boston and four in New York against the Yankees. While those are tough matchups, Zimmermann has not been much better across his 123 innings in The Show, with a 4.98 ERA and 1.30 WHIP while ceding 52 extra-base hits.

Jose Ramirez will be a popular one-off, but there is no need to stop there. The Guardians will be loading up on right-handers tonight, and Owen Miller, Ahmed Rosario and Myles Straw will be at the top of the order in front of Ramirez, providing plenty of RBI opportunities at a very salary-cap-friendly price.

Evening Slate: Astros at RHP Brady Singer — 4.6 implied runs

The Astros are opening their weekend series in Kansas City, where the weather is in the low-80s and there is a 7 to 10 mph breeze out to left field. On the mound is 25-year-old Brady Singer who has been solid in three starts after being sent down to the minors. In this stretch, he has tossed 19.2 innings with a 1.37 ERA, 0.864 WHIP and 20 strikeouts. Last year Singer ended up with a 4.91 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, which is a more realistic performance level than his recent play. Singer allows power to opposite-handed batsmen, so the key players to target tonight are Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker and Michael Brantley.

Late Slate: Red Sox at RHP James Kaprielian — 4.0 implied runs

This has been a rough season for James Kaprielian, making last year look more like an aberration than a realistic baseline. Through six starts he has allowed a dozen extra-base hits, half of which have been round-trippers. His strikeout rate is down significantly from 24.1% last season to 17.8% this year, while his walk rate has ticked up to 9.8%. Kaprielian has always struggled with power, but now that the strikeouts are down, the byproduct is an elevated 5.93 ERA.

The Red Sox have plenty of boppers swinging the stick from both sides of the plate. The cooler weather is leading to a lower implied run total, but it would be a surprise if Boston did not plate at least four or more runs tonight. Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez and Trevor Story are the core four to target. On the late slate, Franchy Cordero and Christian Vazquez can get under the ball, which has them in play for home run upside and differentiation from the bottom of the order.

Best MLB DFS Pitchers Today

Top Target: Corbin Burnes vs. Padres — 4.0 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $10,700 | FanDuel $10,500

Happy Ace Day! After sifting through some truly dreadful pitching choices in the last few slates, Friday brings an embarrassment of riches with several top-tier hurlers in the player pool. Gerrit Cole against Detroit and Nathan Eovaldi in Oakland are phenomenal options and the top two recommendations for safety. Well, at least about as “safe” as any pitcher can be in a matchup.

Corbin Burnes has been sublime through 10 starts, and his performance is on par with last year’s Cy Young-winning campaign. He is fifth in the league with 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings, second with an 0.82 WHIP and seventh with a sterling 1.95 ERA. Burnes also does an amazing job with regards to limiting power, with an absurdly low .083 ISO across the last 900 batters he has faced, a 48.0% ground ball rate and a 34.8% strikeout rate. If Burnes were in this matchup yesterday, he would have been one of the two most popular pitchers on the slate. Today he is likely to be the fifth or sixth-most popular, which is perfect for tournaments.

Secondary Target: LHP Shane McClanahan vs. White Sox — 3.4 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $9,600 | FanDuel $11,200

Strikeout artist Shane McClanahan is another pitcher who is getting lost in the shuffle with the plethora of options today. While the matchup against the White Sox is not an easy one, they are dealing with a lot of injuries that have thinned out their lineup. Tim Anderson and Eloy Jimenez are still on the injured list and the team is in a slump, having lost six of their last eight games. During this stretch, they have scored more than three runs only twice.

McClanahan leads the league with 81 strikeouts, and he is top 10 with a 2.01 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. Through 10 starts he has issued only 12 walks, and even more impressive, he has tallied seven or more strikeouts nine times. The 25-year-old southpaw projects to be rostered at a sub-5% clip on FanDuel and at just 20% on DraftKings, which requires two pitchers.

Additional Opportunities

Mike Minor is someone we can target in the MLB player props market tonight. This will be his 2022 debut after rehabilitating a shoulder injury. The 34-year-old veteran has a 4.5 over/under on his strikeout prop. The Awesemo projections have him for 3.6 strikeouts in this matchup, indicating he has a 74% probability of falling below this milestone. In four outings for Triple-A Louisville this month, Minor tossed 16 innings and allowed three home runs while recording 20 strikeouts. In his final appearance, he threw 71 pitches, so something in the 75 to 80 range will be his upside limit. The projected Nationals lineup has a low 17.6% strikeout rate against southpaws since the beginning of last season, which also bodes well for those looking to take the under.
