Fantasy MLB DFS: Happy Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16 has us with 11 games on the “main” slate for most sites such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and FantasyDraft – so we will want to look to Yahoo! for our Coors Field Extravaganza fix. There are several pitchers to target against and some excellent hitting environments, but before you lock in your baseball lineups, make sure to check out Awesemo’s MLB rankings and projections. Greetings Gamers! Let’s give a shout out to SUUUUUUNNNNDAAAAY FUNDAY and see what we have on tap with most sites eschewing the Padres at Rockies on Father’s Day.
If you have not yet signed up for Yahoo! Fantasy DFS, click this link and use the promo code Awesemo when making your first deposit and you will be eligible for $30 of “free play” which Yahoo! will match through the first $30 of your deposit (this bonus will be received in Yahoo Sports Rewards Points aka YSRP which can be used to enter any paid contest immediately).
Main Slate
Cincinnati Reds vs. RHP Ariel Jurado – 5.1 implied runs
We have some potential precipitation for this game as I’m looking at things the night before, but it should be in the low-80s and humidity will help the home run cause in the Great American SMALLpark.
RHP Ariel Jurado has been, to borrow the oft misquoted phrase from Winston Churchill, a “riddle wrapped up in an enigma”…. which of course is a mystery that aptly applies to the recent form of Jurado:
2018: 12 games 8 starts 54.2 innings with a 5.93 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and a lowly 22 strikeouts and seven home runs
2019: 14 games 5 starts 41.2 innings with a 3.02 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and an improved 34 strikeouts with just five home runs
When looking at DFS PGA and NASCAR we do consider recent form, however, Jurado was also a whole lotta meh during his minor league action with 591 innings posting a 4.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 7.0 K/9 with all but 22.2 innings below AAA.
For me, I’ll follow the longer track record of a mediocre pitcher, focusing on his low 13.4 K% over his last 400 MLB batters faced since the start of last year along with the 42.0 HH% as my guideline.
Eugenio Suarez, Yasiel Puig, Nick Senzel and Joey Votto are the batters I would like roll with – again, weather cooperating with us on Sunday.
Boston Red Sox at LHP John Means – 5.5 implied runs
If you are privy to the Awesemo Premium Slack then you know our contributors as well as our fervent subscribers are divided on what LHP John Means and his truly wicked changeup bring to the table.
For me, as the bonus recommendation from the 1 PM games I want to target against him with the BoSox and know that the soft and delicious underbelly that is the craptastic Orioles bullpen is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
For those of you looking towards past performance, this will be the third time that Means has started against Boston and while he has been stellar with a 1-1 record with 12.0 innings pitched with a 1.50 ERA and 0.67 WHIP it is the low strikeout rate that has me very concerned (7 in 12 innings vs. Boston) so I will err towards the proven commodity. It will be interesting to see where The Masses roll since the Coors Field Extravaganza is not on the DraftKings, FanDuel or FantasyDraft “main” slate – remember that Yahoo! rolls out all of the games with each of their lock times.
Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Michael Chavis (lineup spot depending) and Xander Bogaerts stand out as our core four in tournaments.
Afternoon Slate
This is seriously a short slate as we have only three games going off after 4 PM EST and that is not really very exciting – props to Yahoo! for rolling out the goodness.
Oakland Athletics vs. RHP Mike Leake – 5.1 implied runs
We won’t be alone targeting against RHP Mike Leake with the power bats from Oakland as he has allowed the fourth most home runs since the beginning of last season with 43 round-trippers (Dylan Bundy 56, Jakob Junis 46 and surprisingly Justin Verlander with 45 though more often than not he allows solo-shots).
The Athletics pack a lot of punch in their batting order with Matt Chapman, Matt Olsen, Khris Davis, Jurickson Profar and Ramon Laureano all approaching or exceeding the vaunted .200 ISO benchmark against right-handed hurlers.
As always, you can reach out to me in Awesemo.com Premium Slack or on Twitter @EMacDFS if you have any questions.
