Main Slate
New York Yankees vs LHP Ryan Yarbrough – 5.4 implied runs
While I have a strong preference to go with the Phillies batsmen from both sides of the plate against RHP Erick Fedde, because this game is in Nationals Park an there is precipitation within 25 miles of the stadium, who knows what the status of this game will be.
While it will be overcast in New York, there is just a 20-25% chance of precipitation so we will start here with the Bronx Bombers who should be excited to have paid a mere pittance to the Mariners for veteran slugger Edwin Encarnacion who was leading the American League in homeruns at the time of acquisition and as a bonu Giancarlo Stanton is expected to be activated from the injured list for Tuesday’s tilt. With the many other excellent right-handed hitters in Luke Voit, Gary Sanchez, D.J. LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres and switch-hitter Aaron Hicks, this is a matchup we will want to flock to and with all 30 teams in action along with the top-shelf pricing for most of these hitters across the sites, we should not worry too much about overlap with our opponents as there will be ample opportunity to differentiate our lineups elsewhere.
Evening Slate
Cleveland Indians against RHP Adrian Sampson – 5.2 implied runs
While RHP Adrian Sampson may be better than we initially expected, there is still not much of a track record for me to avoid going against him as he does not really have overpowering stuff with a low 90s fastball 56%, a changeup that he has gone away from this season so far 22.1% down to 113.4% and the variable which could be making all the difference, a slider 31.3% of the time up from 4.7% last season.
Over his last 400 batters he has a 4.86 xFIP, with it being 4.98 last year across 96 batters and still a meh 4.81 this year, even though the results have been better (aka could this be luck or the change in pitch mix?).
Francisco Lindor and Carlos Santana are priced up on most sites, but Jason Kipnis is a steal on Yahoo $9, FanDuel $2,500 and DraftKings $3,200 and the slumping Jose Ramirez is undervalued as well. If we consider his longer track record of success and lastly Jake Bauers is your differentiation option with some pop in his bat.
Late Slate
Los Angeles Dodgers vs RHP Shaun Anderson – 4.8 implied runs
Props to RHP Shaun Anderson posting three straight quality starts and while I have benefited from his good outing against San Diego and a smattering in his appearance in Baltimore, I was also on the wrong side of the Diamondbacks debacle. The Dodgers are loaded and by far the toughest test for the young righty thus far.
While we are unlikely to be alone in our assessment, the Los Angeles lefties can be quite formidable with Joc Pederson, Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy while we can work in Alex Verdugo and/or Matt Beaty as differentiation options. This stack is fine on any slate the Dodgers are a part of on Tuesday.
