Early Slate
Milwaukee Brewers vs RHP Mike Leake – 5.7 implied runs
Fun little history lesson, how many of you knew that the first MLB team in Seattle was the Pilots? They lasted just one season in 1969 (yes, this actually was before I was born) before being relocated to Milwaukee becoming the Brewers.
Now that doesn’t have much if anything to do with today’s matchup, but it is a fun little bit of trivia. On to more pertinent things, RHP Mike Leake is tied for the league lead with 22 home runs allowed this season along with Dan Straily and Reynaldo Lopez and Leake has allowed 45 over the last two seasons combined which is the seventh most with 16 to lefties and 29 to righties.
There is no need to be choosey and we can liberally roll out the barrel of fun with Christian Yelich, Yasmani Grandal, Mike Moustakas, Ryan Braun, Eric Thames, Travis Shaw and heck, how about a little Ben Gamel remember me potential upside against his former squad!
Main Slate
Los Angeles Dodgers at RHP Peter Lambert – 6.6 implied runs
On a four-game main slate it is going to be hard to avoid the Dodgers against RHP Peter Lambert who has been less than impressive with his 5.85 ERA, 1.35 WHIP with 16 strikeouts in 20.0 innings pitched this season. Now too be fair he did only turn 22-years old this April and he was reasonably effective as he worked his way up through the Rockies farm system – but we know that Los Angeles is damn good, even with A.J. Pollock and Corey Seager out of commission.
We have seen time and time again that implied totals are just that and by no means are they a guarantee of that games outcome/production, but man is the herd going to be strong with the Dodgers. DraftKings did a nice job of making the salaries high enough that we will have some decision points on the four game main slate, but Yahoo did not goose things enough and it is like FanDuel just wants everyone to feel good about their lineup rather than keeping things more in line with an actual decision making exercise.
Literally anyone who makes the lineup is in play, so on this short slate do not be afraid to get a little creative as you seek to achieve differentiation.
Late Slate
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. RHP Tanner Anderson – 5.0 implied runs
Again, with the rare uber-short slate on Thursday, we can look to the Angels on the four game “main” slate as well. RHP Tanner Anderson has been sketchy at best and it will be a surprise if he manages to clear the fifth inning in this matchup. Now that they are mostly healthy, the Halos are a pretty straightforward team to stack, though we will usually end up filling all three of our outfield slots, so playing on the sites that allow a little position flexibility means there does not have to be someone left without a chair when the music stops among Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtahni, Kole Calhoun and Justin Upton. Whomever gets the nod between Albert Pujols and Justin Bour is also in play along with the hot hitting Tommy LaStella and the versatile David Fletcher.
