Main Slate
Cincinnati Reds vs. RHP Adrian Houser – 5.2 implied runs
While not exactly being tabbed as an “opener” it’s unlikely that we see RHP Adrian Houser go more than 60-70 pitchers. It took him 64 to get through two innings of the Mariners back on June 26th when he was then “followed” by RHP Freddy Peralta who has been best served by coming out of the bullpen and throwing 60-70 pitches of his own rather than trying to be a starter. Peralta pitched 1.2 innings on Sunday so it is unlikely he will be called upon again. As of this writing on Sunday evening, no additional information is available about who may be coming in after Houser.
It’s going to be a hot one in Cincinnati with game time temperatures in the upper-80s and 65% humidity which should improve the odds of some home run opportunities in the Great American Ballpark. The Brewers have a middle-of-the-pack bullpen and the Reds are reasonably priced across the various DFS sites.
Our preferred order of preference considering price, position eligibility and projected production are Eugenio Suarez, Yasiel Puig, Nick Senzel, Joey Votto, Jose Iglesias, Phillip Ervin and then Jose Peraza.
Late Slate
Texas Rangers vs. LHP Jose Suarez – 5.4 implied runs
The Angels are bringing LHP Jose Suarez back from AAA-Salt Lake for Monday’s series opener in Texas. The mercury will be pushing 90 degrees at game time and with Suarez struggling in his other MLB appearances this season – four starts, 21.0 innings, 5.57 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, six home runs allowed with a decent 7.8 K/9, we should not be shy about targeting against the 21-year old. He’s still working on harnessing his command and needs more seasoning.
The top option of course is Joey Gallo who has a .347 ISO in his last 239 lefty/lefty matchups. After that we can add two or three of the other hitters with Nomar Mazara, Danny Santana and Elvis Andrus being my preferred option and a dart throw with Logan Forsythe who once upon a time was a lefty-expert is fine on the short late game set.
