MLB DFS: Saturday, July 6th has a pair of “main slates” with a healthy six games during the 4 o’clock EST hour Yahoo, DraftKings and FanDuel, along with games in Washington and Atlanta where is is hot and muggy, which could deliver us a better chance for home runs. Early Slate
Baltimore Orioles at LHP Clayton Richard – 5.1 implied runs
While the Batters of Birdland are not great, LHP Clayton Richard has been atrocious against right-handed hitters this season with a .436 wOBA, .283 ISO, 10.9 BB% with a 10.9 K% and while this is a new low for him, he has struggled with opposite-handed batters throughout his career. Trey Mancini, Renato Nunez and Jonathan Villar would be the first options to look at along with Hanser Alberto and Keon Broxton if his name actually ends up being on the lineup card.
Afternoon Slate
Washington Nationals vs. RHP Glen Sparkman – 5.8 implied runs
If the forecast holds, it is going to be 90 degrees with the humidity approaching 60% which means home run weather in Nationals Park. RHP Glen Sparkman has been a mess with a 5.26 xFIP and low 13.4 K% combined against 209 lefties who have gotten to him for a .374 wOBA and .249 ISO and it is not like the 224 righties are that far behind with a .335 wOBA and a 0.144 ISO. Juan Soto is a phenomenal option and he will be at the top of everyone’s list, but we can also consider Gerardo Parra and Adam Eaton as potential one-offs as this trio will likely be spread throughout the lineup. Trea Turner and Anthony Rendon are outstanding against same-handed pitchers and they along with Soto will form the core of any stacking strategy.
Main Slate
Houston Astros vs. LHP Andrew Heaney – 5.1 implied runs
At least DraftKings goosed the prices of the key Houston batters making things more challenging and Yahoo has tight pricing for this team and even FanDuel is better than usual. LHP Andrew Heanedy is a good pitcher, however, he can be had by right-handed batters with a .331 wOBA and a .209 ISO compiled by the last 701 he has faced and we know that the Astros are one of the best teams in the league against southpaws.
Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve and George Springer are the perfect power trio at the top of the order and they do not have position overlap for us to worry about. It feels a little better going with a three-man stack, particularly with the Angels having a relatively solid bullpen that is in the top third of the league by most metrics.
Late Slate
Oakland Athletics at LHP Marco Gonzalez – 5.2 implied runs
Going back to the well with the Athletics as while LHP Marco Gonzales is a solid pitcher, he is not a lock down performer and we still have the Mariners bullpen that is one of the five worst units in the league coming in after him.
Oakland will be seeing Gonzales for the third time this season and he has been solid with 13 innings, 17 baserunners, four earned runs and two home runs allowed, though just seven strikeouts. I don’t feel as strongly as I did in Friday’s matchup with Yusei Kikuchi, but we can go with pairs, trios and even four man stacks as the price is right on DraftKings and Yahoo and not even a concern on FanDuel.
The preferred order of our options considering price, position eligibility and potential production will be Mark Canha, Khris Davis, Chad Pinder, Matt Chapman, Marcus Semien, Matt Olson and Ramon Laureano.
