Greetings Gamers! Welcome to the Sunday Funday slate, which will be interesting with several pitchers to target against and what should be some dispersed popularity with regards to “stacks” in tournaments.

Early Slate

Tampa Bay at RHP Aaron Sanchez – 6.3 implied run total

Well he finally had a “good” start, but I am completely comfortable picking on RHP Aaron Sanchez once again as this is a beautiful matchup for the Rays as their best hitters swing the stick from the left-side of the plate and Sanchez is allowing a .370  wOBA, .181 ISO and best of all at 13.2 BB% over his last 499 opposite-handed matchups.  He is also allowing a 1.27 HR/9 during that stretch to lefties with a 5.84 ERA, 5.39 xFIP and even his healthy 47.5 GB% is not likely to save him.

Ji-Man Choi has now potentially been installed as the leadoff man against righties, so that bodes well for him reaching five plate appearances and at $3,600 on DraftKings, $2,500 on FanDuel and $13 on Yahoo I will be joining The Masses on this one.  Nate Lowe and Tommy Pham have pop against southpaws and we can also consider Austin Meadows, Travis d’Arnaud (pricing varies from okay to insanely high) and then find a bat or two from the bottom of the order for differentiation if this stack becomes popular.

Cincinnati Reds vs RHP Peter Lambert – 5.7 implied run total

Youngster RHP Peter Lambert has had a rough go in The Show and the ballpark and weather (90 degrees, 50% humidity and a breeze at 6-9 mph to left field) are not going to do him any favors.  He has been hammered by both lefties 82 TBF, .404 wOBA, .329 ISO and righties 100 TBF, .381 wOBA, .237 ISO alike so we can look up and down the lineup for options with what is likely to be one of the more popular Sunday Funday stacks. Yasiel Puig is my top option, but his teammates Eugenio Suarez, Jesse Winker, Nick Senzel, Josh VanMeter and even veteran Joey Votto are all in play.

Mid-Afternoon Slate

Minnesota Twins at RHP Dylan Covey – 6.2 implied run total

Broken record time, but the Twinkies are again in an amazing spot and much more formidable than what the ChiSox hurlers faced in the Marlins series.  Some may talk themselves into RHP Dylan Covey on the mid-afternoon slate as an SP2 on DraftKings for his $4,300 price tag and I may join them, but I have no issues playing two Twins against him in the same lineups.  While he has “only” allowed eight home runs this season, that projects out to something in the mid-30s if he was to pitch 200 innings and over his 239.1 career innings he has allowed an unsightly 41 round trippers.

Do not be shy with the Twins and even though they are still spendy, that could help keep their popularity somewhat suppressed on the full-slate.  Pretty much EVERY hitter in the projected lineup has a .200+ ISO versus right-handed pitching over the last two seasons save for Marwin Gonzalez who is still pesky at .158 ISO along with his 10.1 BB%.  Mixing and matching is the way to go and on the mid-afternoon slate we can look to the bottom third of the order for some of the less popular options for differentiation.

Afternoon Slate

Oakland Athletics vs RHP Pedro Payano – 5.4 implied runs

We have a solid four game slate with decent pitching options so most gamers will likely be looking to the Athletics as they are posting a 5.4 implied run total against RHP Pedro Payano though some of the price points may keep gamers from going with a full-stack, particularly with a couple of decent arms we will want to earmark our salary cap towards rostering for this game set.  There is a chance he gets an “opener” in front of him, but he should be good for around 80 pitches…

During his eight seasons in the minors (three in the Dominican Summer league when he was 17-18-19 years old) he had a solid 8.3 K/9 but he is still a young 24 and this is not an easy matchup against Oakland who will set up their hitters in the best possible situation with regards to the platoon advantage.

This is one we will likely be on both sides of, however, if Payano gains popularity on the two-pitcher sites, we will want to leverage with the A’s starting with one of the hotter hitters in Ramon Laureano who is far from a household name and then we can look to Matt Chapman, Matt Olsen and Mark Canha who all have power and even the slumping and discounted Khris Davis is in the mix as well.

Payano survived his first long appearance against the Mariners who are a pesky team and he went 78 pitches over five innings allowing just four baserunners with seven strikeouts and one earned run garnering the win.
