Afternoon Slate

New York Yankees vs RHP Jacob Waguespack – 6.0 implied runs

While it is a slim sample size RHP Jacob Waguespack has allowed the 87 same-handed hitters he has faced this season in The Show to  tally a .389 wOBA with a .210 ISO and four home runs and this continues the “reverse-splits” trend he demonstrated at AA and AAA the last two seasons.  Regardless, this is a difficult matchup against the Yankees even if they are rolling out their understudies at most positions.

Aaron Judge, D.J. LeMahieu and Giovanny Urshela are the trio to target with their power against same-handed pitching along with Gary Sanchez if he is in the lineup.  Do not by shy about filling in the gaps with any of the lefties such as Didi Gregorius, Mike Tauchman, Mike Ford and even Brett Gardner.

Main Slate

Houston Astros at RHP Aaron Brooks – 6.5 implied runs

It is going to be in the mid-to-upper-80s in Baltimore at first pitch with the humidity in the 50-60% range which is not going to do any favors for RHP Aaron Brooks who has been stretched out and should see 90-95 pitches unless he is chased early by the Astros and if that happens, they will be facing one of the worst bullpens in the league as the Orioles active relievers have a bottom three ERA, FIP, xFIP, WHIP, K% and HR/9 rate… and their Mommas dress them funny to boot!

The Houston bats are not going to come cheaply as even FanDuel has appropriately priced their key batsmen.  We can look to rookie phenom Yordan Alvarez along with the typical trio of Alex Bregman, George Springer and Jose Altuve… add in oft forgotten Michael Brantley along with the recently returned Carlos Correa and we have an amazing set of options.  Choose anyone from the bottom third of the batting order for some differentiation or potential savings (depending on your site of choice) and on DraftKings and Yahoo! you can get a decent price for RHP Aaron Sanchez at $6,900 and $29 respectively.

Late Slate

San Diego Padres vs RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez – 5.0 implied runs

For the three game late slate, it looks like targeting against RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez and the Rockies bullpen will be the way to go. However. I prefer a more strategic build with duos from a couple teams rather than an all out “full stack” against any of the scheduled pitchers.  Eric Hosmer and switch-hitter Francisco Mejia are really the only lefties we are likely to see for the Pod Squad, but do not be afraid of their righty power bats in Manny Machado, Hunter Renfroe and Fernando Tatis Jr.

Again, this short game set is shaping up to be one where we want to look at the best hitters as pairs from the various teams in action. These hitters include Charlie Blackmon and Trevor Story or Nolan Arenado against RHP Chris Paddack. Add in A.J. Pollock and Justin Turner against LHP Alex Young; David Peralta and Ketel Marte or Eduardo Escobar against RHP Kenta Maeda and Travis d’Arnaud and Tommy Pham against LHP Tommy Milone.
