Early Slate

Tampa Bay Rays vs LHP Wade LeBlanc – 5.5 implied runs

It is official, LHP Wade LeBlanc has fully assimilated into a Mariners pitcher with four home runs in his last outing, eight over his last four and 25 on the season.  With Seattle essentially running a four southpaw rotation with a bullpen day in the vacated RHP Mike Leake slot it is easy for teams to become accustomed to seeing lefties.  This will be the third day in a row for the Devil Rays and with LeBlanc getting hammered from both sides of the plate LHB: 272 TBF, .235 ISO, 15 HR and RHB: 848 TBF .189 ISO, 34 HR since the beginning of last season look to anyone with power that makes the lineup in the day game after a night game such as Travis d’Arnaud, Austin Meadows, Tommy Pham, Mike Zunino and even Nerd Power himself aka Eric Sogard for some differentiation.

Main Slate

New York Mets vs RHP Adam Plutko – 5.3 implied runs

It has been a while since I have mentioned the Metropolitans in this column and truthfully I am surprised to do it in the absence of Robinson Cano and Jeff McNeil, yet here we are… RHP Adam Plutko has allowed four home runs in his last two starts and 19 on the season in just 71.1 innings with a 2.68 HR/9 to same-handed hitters and a 2.10 HR/9 to lefties.  The Mets we want to target are a very specific trio with Pete Alonso, Michael Conforto and J.D. Davis with Davis being optional, or if we want a full stack then adding in either Wilson Ramos or Amed Rosario would be the way to go.

Evening Slate

Houston Astros vs LHP Daniel Norris – 5.9 Implied Runs

This just isn’t fair… on the season the Astros have a 143 wRC+ against lefties. Weighted runs created plus is an advanced metric that neutralizes ballpark factors creating a league wide scoring efficiency baseline of 100.  This means that they are scoring 43% MORE runs than the average team.

Houston has the second highest walk rate, the second lowest strikeout rate and lead the league with a .241 ISO. Plus LHP Daniel Norris has allowed a .222 ISO to fellow lefties and a .200 ISO to opposite-handed hitters since the beginning of last season.

Considering price, position eligibility, potential production and projected popularity, my order of preference is Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman, George Springer, Jose Altuve, Yuli Gurriel, Robinson Chirinos, Carlos Correa, Josh Reddick, Jake Marisnick and Michael Brantley.

Late Slate

Oakland Athletics vs LHP J.A. Happ – 5.2 implied runs

Props to LHP J.A. Happ for not allowing a home run to Baltimore in his last start, of course he has allowed 29 on the season which is the fifth most and his 56 since the beginning last year is the sixth most in the time frame. Over his last 402 lefty/righty matchups, Happ has allowed a .359 wOBA with a .236 ISO and we know that the Athletics will do their best to load their lineup with right-handed batsmen.  Mark Canha, Matt Chapman and the slumping Khris Davis will be the first trio to target, but for differentiation we can use the recently returned Stephen Piscotty (sore ankle), lefty Matt Olson (.310 ISO this season in 108 lefty/lefty matchups) and Marcus Semien who has found his power stroke (well for him anyway) once again.
