Main Slate
Minnesota Twins at RHP Edwin Jackson – 6.0 implied runs
This could actually benefit us if some combination of Max Kepler, Miguel Sano or Marwin Gonzalez gets Friday off. That would give some reserves the opportunity for some fantasy goodness against RHP Edwin Jackson who has allowed 17 home runs this season in 49.2 innings. We do not need any other numbers to tell us that this is a great spot for the Twinkies. Assuming full health the top plays are Nelson Cruz, Eddie Rosario, Jorge Polanco and the trio in the lead sentence. We can also us Jake Cave, Jason Castro and Luis Arraez as some slightly discounted options depending on your site of choice.
Evening Slate
Coors Field Extravaganza – 14.0 implied runs
Pittsburgh Pirates
We will have a pair of righties on the mound in Colorado on Friday. The Pirates will be taking on RHP Antonio Senzatela who has ceded a 6.75 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 13 home runs. With a 55 GB% over the last two seasons, one would think he could survive in the thin air of Denver, but that is not the case. His pitch mix does limit home runs, but the low K% and high BB% keep him among the dregs. We can go after him with batters from either side of the plate. Josh Bell, Starling Marte, Bryan Reynolds, Colin Moran, Adam Frazier and Jose Osuna would be the preferred order.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies are going against what seems to be a near twin of their own hurler in RHP Dario Agrazal. Even in the minors (5.8 K/9), Agrazal did not exhibit any strikeout upside. He allows too much power and naturally has been worse against lefties at all stops. Charlie Blackmon, Daniel Murphy, Ryan McMahon and Samuel Hilliard will be our targets of choice. While Hilliard is below average at making contact, he mashes when he does plus he could swipe one.
Baltimore Orioles at LHP Eric Skoglund – 4.9 implied runs
As a Mile High City pivot on the evening slate, take a look at hitters facing LHP Eric Skoglund. Last season over 315 batters he allowed a combined .216 ISO. This year over 93.0 innings he has collected a 5.90 ERA, 1.42 WHIP. Despite toiling for 5+ seasons in the minors he has not flashed much upside.
Feel free to target him with anyone in the O’s lineup with power. Renato Nunez, Anthony Santander, Trey Mancini and maybe a dart with Jonathan Villar or Pedro Severino. Duos and trios are a better way to approach this secondary stack.
This will be a particularly interesting spot on the “main” slate as some gamers may talk themselves into Skoglund. Be sure to keep an eye on his popularity on the two-pitcher sites a because of the expensive hurlers. If you want to work in Rockies, Pirates and Twins, something has to give.
Late Slate
Boston Red Sox at LHP Jose Suarez – 5.4 implied runs
Ohhhhhh this is going to be a long/short night for LHP Jose Suarez against the Red Sox. Across 197 lefty/righty matchups this season Suarez is allowing a 2.97 HR/9 with a .267 ISO and a 9.10 BB%. J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts and Christian Vazquez will be the core four to target on all slates Friday. For savings we can look to Sam Travis, though he is a pinch hit risk as soon as a right-handed reliever enters the game. Chris Owings will likely be batting in the nine-hole if he makes the lineup, but he is near the minimum price on every site.
