I wanted to put a different spin on Spotlight DFS Pitchers, so I’m giving everyone a peek behind the curtain on how I look at them. Below you’ll find two tables, one for DraftKings and one for FanDuel, with the pitcher pool for today’s slate. In the table, you’ll find the pitcher’s name, salary, my projection and my percentage likelihood that they hit a particular target score.

This is the information that helps me make my decisions for which pitchers to roster. Using my projected stat line for a pitcher, I can estimate their chances of scoring 45+ FD points or 30+ DK points. These targets ignore the points acquired for getting the win, as I use the Vegas odds to set those scores for my pitchers.

Since I am a strict MME player in baseball, these are the thresholds I’ve determined I want on a day-to-day basis to try and win a tournament. Because of the difference in roster construction between the sites, I end up with a concentrated pool on FanDuel and a more spread out pool on DraftKings.

DraftKings

Yahoo

Well, this is going to be tough. The good news is we shouldn’t have any weather issues. The bad news, however, is that this might be the most difficult pitching slate of the season.

FanDuel Pitcher Picks

On FanDuel, my favorite starter is Matthew Boyd. He just happens to be the cheapest option of the “top” tier of starters. He’s projected to face a Rangers lineup loaded with left handed hitters. It just feels like the best possible spot. The problem is the gap between Boyd and some of the guys above him is razor thin. Small changes in the betting line, or the projected lineup, could drop him behind Mike Minor, Charlie Morton or Patrick Corbin.

My first choice would be Minor, since he gets to face the Tigers. I think Zack Gallen is a really interesting option against the Nationals. Gallen profiles with solid strikeout stuff and has shown the ability to go deeper into games. He could be a sneaky play. It looks like Wrigley will be playing as a pitcher’s park tonight, which makes Yu Darvish a tasty option at $7400. The Braves are good, but if you can get the wind blowing in, the entire game changes.

DraftKings Pitcher Picks

DraftKings is a much tougher nut to crack. Boyd’s price is a bit higher, but he’s still my top pitcher. The gap is tighter, though. I actually like Jake Odorizzi at $9500 thanks to some of the other prices at the top. Gallen stands out as a mid-tier SP2 and should be a solid pairing with any of the top arms. The real scary part is the bottom of the pitcher pool. I don’t really see a viable arm under $7000. It’s truly one of the worst crops of pay down arms I can remember this season. I fully expect to pay down for bats tonight.

Yahoo DFS Pitcher Picks

On Yahoo, Boyd is once again my top arm. I think he’s the clear top option at just $42. That’s a bargain against the Rangers. I really like pairing him with Corbin at the exact same price. That leaves you with $116 for hitting, which feels like a ton of money. I feel like a broken record, but Gallen at $31 is currently my third favorite arm on the Yahoo slate. It will be significantly easier to pay up for hitting on Yahoo because of the pitching prices, so keep that in mind when you’re putting your lineups together.
