After just a few months of allowing late swap in its MMA DFS contests, DraftKings has decided to discontinue the feature going forward. According to statements from DraftKings, this decision was made after receiving negative response to the late-swap addition from MMA DFS players.
As discussed by Jordan Cooper and Stokastic’s Neil Orfield on Neil’s “High Stakes” podcast, the late swap addition caused enough user difficulties to lead to a significant drop in mass multi-entries and 150-max lineups in DraftKings MMA DFS contests.

In another statement emailed to DFS players, DraftKings said:
“In November 2022, DraftKings made the decision to include Late Swap functionality in its MMA DFS product as a solution for late scratches. However, after talking with several avid MMA DFS players and understanding the community’s concerns with the feature, DraftKings has made the decision to roll back the functionality and return MMA to a non-late swap sport.
“The introduction of Late Swap led to a negative user experience and the overall community wishes for the product to return to its prior form … Effective immediately, DraftKings has made the necessary changes to its MMA product to return to its prior form and provide a better experience for its MMA DFS players.”
The next UFC card is not until Feb. 4 — a Fight Night with a main event between Derrick Lewis and Serghei Spivac. That gives MMA DFS players and DraftKings enough time to adjust back to the original contest format.
