Chris Moneymaker became famous for taking a shot at the World Series of Poker and turning less than $40 into a Main Event bracelet. Is he trying to do the same within the DraftKings NBA DFS world?
On Tuesday, Moneymaker took down over $100,000 in tournament winnings in DraftKings NBA DFS, including a first-place finish in the $500K MEGA 8’s with $100,000 to first.
According to Moneymaker, he’s new to NBA DFS having just started playing last week. In a screenshot shared of the winning lineups, you can see his balance before winning was just shy of $6,000. The man famous for ‘beginner’s luck’ in the World Series of Poker may have just done it again in DFS.
Not only did he take down multiple tournaments, but he did it with one single lineup. No multi-entries. No variations.
His winning lineup totals 364.25 points and was led by Jimmy Butler’s 62.75 points. Joining Butler in Moneymaker’s Heat stack was Max Strus and Victor Oladipo. Kawhi Leonard (60.75 points) and Mikal Bridges (52.75) were nice adds. The difference-maker may have been a low-owned Josh Giddey, who put up a triple-double for 55.25 DK points.
Suns big man Jock Landale was the lone player to not earn a flame on his lineup.

In 2003, Chris Moneymaker famously earned his way into the World Series of Poker by taking down an online satellite tournament with just a $39 buy in. He defeated Sam Farha heads up to win the bracelet and the $2.5 million prize. His win — and the way he did it with big bluffs and a fearlessness that took on top professionals — changed the landscape of poker forever, bringing more and more people into the game.
Will we see a new ‘Moneymaker Effect’ in DFS? We’ll see. But it was good to see Moneymaker listen to our own Alex ‘Awesemo’ Baker and take it into his own hands.
