Luka Doncic: Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

It was somewhat of a surprise that Luka Doncic got the night off on Saturday with Kristaps Porzingis. It was the second half of a road back-to-back where both had played 34 minutes the night before, so it was not a complete shock. However, it was disappointing that we did not get to see him on the court against Trae Young. The matchup tonight is phenomenal and over their last 15 games, the Timberwolves are just as bad and play just as fast as the Hawks.
Doncic is sixth in the league with 29.0 points per game, third with 8.6 assists and sixth with 9.0 3-point attempts per contest. Yes, there is some fear of a blowout limiting Doncic’s upside, but he is leading the Mavericks in every statistical category. The Slovenian also leads the league with 12 triple-doubles (tied with LeBron James). Eight of those have come in 35 or fewer minutes with the fastest two being in 26 and 30 minutes against Golden State.

Joel Embiid and Josh Richardson: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Atlanta Hawks

Ben Simmons is out with a back injury and Tobias Harris will likely miss tonight with a bruised knee UPDATE: Harris upgraded to available on the 5pm injury report. That means that Joel Embiid will get to take on the defensively challenged Atlanta Hawks frontcourt. When both of these players are off the floor, Embiid is averaging 1.64 fantasy points per minute across 235.6 minutes which is about a 10% increase in his production. Josh Richardson gets a 0.21 fantasy point increase to 1.05 when Harris and Simmons are sidelined, making him an outstanding option at his current price tag.

Al Horford: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Atlanta Hawks

Please, please, let this level of popularity hold for Al Horford in a matchup with the team that drafted him. Yes, Horford is averaging a fantasy point per minute when Simmons and Harris are off the court. It is also true that he is basically carrying the lowest price tag of his career on DraftKings and FanDuel.
In his last eight games — five starts and three off the bench — he is averaging 27.1 minutes and 0.81 fantasy points per minute. Let’s give him 30 minutes and that gets us to 24.4 fantasy points. In 52 games this season, Horford has topped 40 fantasy points six times. Three of those outings have occurred after Veteran’s Day. Let others assume the risk here.

Our standout SuperDraft recommendations for today include what should be a wildly popular Joel Embiid that is receiving a 15% kicker on his 1.64-fantasy-point production without Simmons and Harris. Julius Randle gets an up-tempo game against Houston which should feature a ton of rebound opportunities. Finally, we get Malik Beasley once again with his lofty multiplier and reasonable chance for 18-20 field goal attempts.
Final Thoughts
This should be an interesting slate with a lack of marquee options. It is days like these that we want to trust our projections and look for hidden upside potential because there are not that many “stars” for a stars-and-scrubs build.
