NBA DFS Picks Today 6/8: DraftKings & FanDuel Building Blocks

Wednesday, June 8, sees the NBA Finals resuming play in Boston for the first time, with the Celtics and Golden State Warriors tied up at one game apiece. The game tips off at 9 p.m. ET on DraftKings and FanDuel. Let’s take a look at the player pool and break down the best NBA DFS picks today for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.

DraftKings & FanDuel NBA DFS Picks Today (6/8)

Jayson Tatum | Boston Celtics

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 52.2 | FanDuel: 49.87
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Ownership Projections: DraftKings: 68.3% | FanDuel: 61.6%
  • DFS Salary: DraftKings: $10,800 | FanDuel: $15,500

In Game 2, Jayson Tatum bounced back from a dismal three-of-17 performance from the field, knocking down eight-of-19 attempts and six-of-nine from behind the arc on his way to a team-high 28 points. Unfortunately, fellow starters Al Horford, Marcus Smart and Robert Williams chipped in a woeful six combined points and the Celtics were rolled over 107-88 in Golden State.

Things were so lopsided that Tatum was the only starter who played more than 28 minutes, as Boston just could not get anything going to the point where they emptied the bench less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. That should not dissuade anyone from rostering Tatum tonight. For a third consecutive game in this series, Tatum once again has the best point-per-dollar ratio on both DraftKings and FanDuel, despite also having the highest salary.

Stephen Curry | Golden State Warriors

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 45.45 | FanDuel: 43.04
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Ownership Projections: DraftKings: 59.7% | FanDuel: 52.2%
  • DFS Salary: DraftKings: $11,000 | FanDuel: $15,000

Stephen Curry now has back-to-back 50-fantasy-point performances, though the deck is stacked against him to get a third in Boston. One nice thing about the tightened rotation for Golden State is that Curry has averaged 31.5 points, six made 3-point shots, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and a surprising 3.0 steals in the first two games. DraftKings has continued to inch his salary up after each game, but FanDuel granted a $500 reprieve for the road matchup. While the two-time NBA MVP is still capable of a slate-breaking performance, on the road in a difficult matchup and with a lofty salary means there is a razor-thin margin between decent fantasy success and a soul-crushing mediocre performance.

Jaylen Brown | Boston Celtics

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 41.37 | FanDuel: 39.44
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Ownership Projections: DraftKings: 51.1% | FanDuel: 47.9%
  • DFS Salary: DraftKings: $9,400 | FanDuel: $14,500

Throughout the playoffs, Jaylen Brown has continued to impress and it is clear that he and Tatum are fully capable of coexisting on a basketball court and even thriving at the same time. Across 20 games this postseason, Brown is averaging 22.7 points with a 10.4 combined rebounds and assists. This provides an excellent fantasy baseline while also giving him access to 50 fantasy points if things break his way. The salary continues to trend upwards, but, by no means, is Brown priced out of the action tonight.

Draymond Green | Golden State Warriors

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 33.86 | FanDuel: 33.84
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Ownership Projections: DraftKings: 49.1% | FanDuel: 42.5%
  • DFS Salary: DraftKings: $7,000 | FanDuel: $11,000

Sadly, after getting a dozen field goal attempts, Draymond Green was back to only three for Game 2, which resulted in a 9.1% usage rate, his lowest over the last nine games. On a high note, Green did make five-of-seven from the free-throw line while continuing to provide a handful of rebounds and assists with a couple of steals per his usual performances. It has been a while since Green has had a truly apex fantasy performance. He is still coming in just a tick behind Tatum for his fantasy point-per-dollar ratio on both sites.

Golden State Warriors

  1. Otto Porter Jr: Porter did not see his usual 22-to-24 minutes, as the ‘Dubs needed him for only 15 in their Game 2 rout. Things should be looking up, and pegging Porter at 20 fantasy points is a realistic expectation for tonight.
  2. Gary Payton II: It is clear that Payton is still not 100% after fracturing his elbow one month ago. However, the 25 minutes were encouraging and he did make the one 3-pointer he attempted, though he missed both foul shots. The $3,000 salary on DraftKings makes him a solid play with a baseline expectation of a dozen fantasy points.
  3. Nemanja Bjelica: The journeyman center received 11 minutes, starting both the second and fourth quarters in place of Kevon Looney. There is always a chance this reverses, but the Warriors are desperate for offense and may be willing to experiment with Bjelica in this series, despite his inability to play even average defense.

Otto Porter Jr. is an interesting option in the NBA player props market. He has a 3.5 over/under on his rebound prop, and the Awesemo NBA player projections have him for 4.9 rebounds, which gives him a 71% probability of surpassing the over. Porter has at least four rebounds six times in his last 10 postseason games, and in games where he has played at least 16 minutes, he has topped this milestone in all but one game.

Boston Celtics

  1. Derrick White: Coming in with the first wave of reserves, White also played the entire second quarter. He will be on the court for all of the minutes that Smart is on the bench, and they can both play together, giving White a 25-minute floor with a shot at 30 minutes or more tonight under the right circumstances.
  2. Grant Williams: Williams came into the game midway through the first quarter with White, though his minutes are more tenuous, as he believes he is more talented than reality. It is great having those players when things are going well, but they can easily draw the ire of their coaches and find themselves on the sidelines for long stretches of close games.
  3. Payton Pritchard: All of his upside is predicated on mop-up duty in the fourth quarter. He should be secure for two rotations totaling around 10 minutes, but anything beyond that will be icing on the cake.
