NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks, Saturday, Nov. 27

Yahoo Play of the Day — Luka Doncic: Dallas Mavericks vs. Washington Wizards

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 47.18 | DraftKings: 50.12
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 20.4% | FanDuel 12.2% | DraftKings 11.7%
  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $49 | FanDuel $10,800 | DraftKings $11,500

Tonight the Mavericks are playing for the first time in four days while the Wizards are playing their third road game in four nights. Washington has been much improved on defense this season under first-year coach Wes Unseld Jr., who also was successful in leading Denver’s defensive turnaround the last couple years as an assistant. It helps that the Wizards acquired Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Kyle Kuzma from the Lakers, brought in Daniel Gafford during the last trade deadline and signed Spencer Dinwiddie as a free agent. While they are far from a lockdown unit, they have improved from a bottom-five to a middle-of-the-pack efficiency.

Of course, Luka Doncic is a fringe MVP-caliber player and while he is mostly matchup proof, it is important to know that this is not the cherry matchup it would have been last season. Doncic is coming into this matchup with four straight 50-plus Yahoo Fantasy point performances and a fifth trip to that destination is very much in play tonight. The Mavericks are projected for 110 points tonight, which is half a dozen more than their season average.

Devin Booker: Phoenix Suns at Brooklyn Nets

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 37.13 | DraftKings: 38.73
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 17.2% | FanDuel 21.7% | DraftKings 6.9%
  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $32 | FanDuel $7,700 | DraftKings $8,600

This is a back-to-back and the third game in four nights for Phoenix. Fortunately it did not have to leave New York after dispatching the Knickerbockers in Madison Square Garden last night 118-97. Devin Booker has taken 20-plus field goals in each of his last two games and in four of his last six. Chris Paul has been content to facilitate and pick his spots on offense this season, saving himself for the crucial parts of the game. After playing at the fourth-slowest pace in the league last season, the Suns are the fourth fastest this year. Tonight’s game has the second-highest point total at 224.5, which is eight points more than the next-closest point total. While there may be a bit of a subplot between Paul and James Harden, the veteran is smart enough to know that a victory in Barclays Center is far more important than a big individual performance. With Paul directing the offense, anything less than 40-plus fantasy points for Booker tonight will be a disappointment.

Booker was popping off the page in our lineup optimizer today. Check out all of Awesemo’s free NBA DFS optimizer picks in the form of our DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo NBA Cheat Sheets.

Bradley Beal: Washington Wizards at Dallas Mavericks

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 38.72 | DraftKings: 40.82
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 14.6% | FanDuel 7.7% | DraftKings 8.2%
  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $36 | FanDuel $8,700 | DraftKings $9,100

Though this is the third game in four nights and Bradley Beal is coming off 37 minutes Friday, he only played 28 minutes on Wednesday. The other nice thing is that even though he has seeing 35-plus minutes most games, he has a lot more help than he did last year so he does not have to carry the offense on every single possession. It is likely that Spencer Dinwiddie will sit out this back-to-back, which is important for this recommendation. This year in 553 minutes alongside his new teammate, Beal is averaging just 0.96 Yahoo fantasy points per minute. However, in 305 minutes without Dinwiddie, that rate jumps to 1.15, which is nearly a 20% increase, which should be a major difference maker with tonight’s reasonable salary.

Taj Gibson (groin) and Derrick Rose (ankle) will be out for their fifth and third straight games. Tonight, Kemba Walker has also been declared out on the back-to-back. This will give a significant boost to Immanuel Quickly, who will be the primary point guard. Evan Fournier and Alec Burks also will get a boost with extra backcourt minutes becoming available and they too can serve as non-traditional facilitators along with do-everything forward Julius Randle. R.J. Barrett has been in a major shooting slump this season and now he even seems reluctant to take any shots with only one game over 13 field goal attempts in his last eight appearances. Perhaps he shakes out of his funk tonight, however, with only 26-plus fantasy points twice in this stretch it seems savvy to let other gamers assume the increased risk of yet another dud.

Joe Ingles: Utah Jazz vs. New Orleans Pelicans

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 21.91 | DraftKings: 22.99
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 7.4% | FanDuel 5.6% | DraftKings 9.4%
  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $10 | FanDuel $4,400 | DraftKings $3,900

Tonight Mike Conley is likely to rest on the back-to-back, which will open up more minutes and responsibilities for Joe Ingles as a distributor tasked with running the offense when Donovan Mitchell is on the bench. New Orleans actually snuck by Utah last night 98-97, though they will not be overlooked tonight by the Jazz. After suffering a four game losing streak at home just prior to the pandemic shutdown, Utah has lost consecutive home game once since then. On a fun note, Ingles has the fifth most assists in franchise history. Jordan Clarkson should also see a boost in minutes and opportunities without Conley.

Final Thoughts on NBA DFS picks for the Friday, Nov. 26 Slate

Tonight is a condensed slat with all of the games tipping off within 90 minutes of each other. Keep in mind that salaries and scoring formats differ across the various fantasy sites, and a slam-dunk play on Yahoo may be a below-average NBA DFS pick on DraftKings or FanDuel.
