NBA DFS Picks: Prime Time Players

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Dallas Mavericks

DraftKings $7,000, FanDuel $7,400, Yahoo $30 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 20.2%, FanDuel 27.2% Yahoo Fantasy 15.0%

In December, the Dallas Mavericks have been a bottom ten team with a 110.2 DEF EFF and a top ten team with 101.3 possessions per game. We have only four games on our main slate and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is firmly in play regardless of his teammates status. However, if Danilo Gallinari (ankle) misses a fifth straight game or Dennis Schroder (ankle) misses a second – SGA rises to a top option.

The move to Oklahoma City has been a productive one for him as he is now the top option on a free-wheeling offense. Most of his fantasy value resides in his ability to put the proverbial biscuit in the basket. Over his last six games he is averaging 36.9 minutes with 27.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.5 combined blocks/steals for 41.9 fantasy points.

If one or both of his teammates are out, he should continue to have his baseline field goal attempts in the upper teens which ought to keep him around 40ish fantasy points tonight. If both are back in action, then we can pivot to LaMarcus Aldridge in a very winnable home game for San Antonio.

NBA DFS Picks: Good Value

“Down with the sickness.” ~ Disturbed   Josh Engleman  Coach Steve Kerr

It would seem that load management an illness is running rampant through the NBA with the latest casualties being the Warriors. D’Angelo Russell (shoulder, illness) is out, Willie Cauley-Stein (illness) is doubtful plus Ky Bowman and Omari Spellman (illness) are questionable.

Alec Burks, Damion Lee, Glenn Robinson and Eric Paschall would be the biggest beneficiaries of their teammates being down with the sickness. If Ky Bowman is playing, he is near minimum across the board and should see 25ish minutes.

Marquese Chriss should see additional work and he actually has improved his tendencies for fouls. This year he has 4.0 fouls per 36 minutes which is a dramatic improvement over last year 5.8 per 36 rate. However, he is best utilized as a tournament differentiation play.

The Spurs have actually been in the top third of the league from a DEF EFF standpoint over their last ten games, so this is not a gimme for the ‘Dubs.

NBA DFS Picks: Risky Value

Draymond Green: Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs

DraftKings $6,100, FanDuel $6,7400, Yahoo $23 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 36.3%, FanDuel 28.2% Yahoo Fantasy 55.6%

Fingers crossed that this level of popularity holds for Draymond. It is nice that he has taken double digit shot attempts in his last three games. That is something he accomplished only twice in the eleven games leading into Christmas. Raise your hand if you think he is a sneaky rebounder. WRONG at least not this season as he has 10+ in just five of 24 games and is averaging 6.3 per appearance.

For those of you excited that he is “point” Draymond, his 5.6 assists per game are his lowest since the 2014-15 Season. Overall he is averaging about a fantasy point per minute. I do not see much upside, so let others flock to the former Spartan.

FantasyCruncher Tip of the Day

Use promo code PRIMETIME to receive 50% off any one-month premium subscription (including FantasyCruncher options).

With the incredibly user-friendly FantasyCruncher, we can take our lineup construction to the next level.

Today let’s look at one of the ways we can utilize the group function.

In this example, I have put the San Antonio guards into the group and set a requirement that no more than two will be on any of my rosters. By naming this group I can easily find it and change it as I see fit. Selecting the save this group for other days option will allow me to easily import it the next time the Spurs are on the schedule.

Final Thoughts

The status of James Harden will dramatically impact tonight’s games. If he is in, he is egregiously underpriced on DraftKings and FantasyDraft. If he is out, then Russell Westbrook will be one of the better raw point producers and we can think about earmarking a significant portion of our salary cap to Luka Doncic.

Tune in to the Deeper Dive/Live Before Lock shows on YouTube,  Twitch and Periscope beginning at 5 p.m. EST tonight for all of the up-to-date information.

As always, you can reach out to me in Awesemo.com Premium Slack or on Twitter @EMacDFS if you have any NBA DFS questions about DraftKings, FanDuel, Yahoo or FantasyDraft.
