NBA DFS Picks: Prime Time Players

Anthony Davis: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Houston Rockets

DraftKings $9,700, FanDuel $9,800, Yahoo $49 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings TBA%, FanDuel TBA% Yahoo Fantasy TBA%

It has been a while since Anthony Davis has been discussed as the featured player for the day in this column. The Lakers next back-to-back is in three weeks, which will be after the All-Star Break. We are getting a favorable price tag across the board tonight for Davis. In his last seven games since returning from his glute injury that cost him five games, Los Angeles has been involved in five blowouts — two losses and three victories. The point is to not get hung up on the recent game logs.

Davis has done well meshing with LeBron James and is averaging 50-ish fantasy points per game depending on your site of choice. Houston is playing at the third-fastest pace over their last 15 games. Clint Capela will not be manning the paint tonight, so Davis should be able to score at will against P.J. Tucker and company.

Tonight should be a stars-and-scrubs slate with the trade deadline opening up a few more discount dandies. Other top-end plays tonight include LeBron James, Zach LaVine, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Hassan Whiteside, Russell Westbrook, Ben Simmons and James Harden. This order of preference takes into account price and matchup. In the event Westbrook misses tonight’s battle in Los Angeles, Harden would vault to the top of the list.

NBA DFS Picks: Good Value

Chandler Hutchison: Chicago Bulls vs. New Orleans Pelicans

DraftKings $4,300, FanDuel $4,500, Yahoo $10 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings TBA%, FanDuel TBA% Yahoo Fantasy TBA%

Currently Daniel Gafford and Denzel Valentine are doubtful. Chicago is also without Kris Dunn, Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter Jr. The minutes should be plentiful for Hutchison and so should the field goal attempts. In two of his last three games, Hutchison has topped 27 minutes with 13 and 14 shot attempts. This should continue again tonight and regardless of if he starts or is coming off the bench, he is a solid discount dandy.

NBA DFS Picks: Risky Value

Zion Williamson: New Orleans Pelicans at Chicago Bulls

DraftKings $7,700, FanDuel $7,500, Yahoo $31 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings TBA%, FanDuel TBA% Yahoo Fantasy TBA%

Cue the “why do you hate Zion Williamson so much” crowd. Just a reminder, risky does not mean bad by any stretch. On the positive side of the ledger, Williamson has played 31.8 and 33 minutes in each of his last two games and this is a phenomenal matchup against a decimated frontcourt. On the risky side of things, Williamson has not topped 40 fantasy points in any of his seven appearances. Additionally, he has topped 10 rebounds twice and has a combined six blocks and steals so far. This means we are going to need a 20 and 10 game at a minimum for him to even come close to paying off this price tag.

In tonight’s matchup, that 20 and 10 is very attainable. However, in his two games this season where he achieved that milestone, he averaged 35 fantasy points in those outings. Caveat emptor, my friends.

NBA DFS Picks: SuperDraft

Zion Williamson: New Orleans Pelicans at Chicago Bulls 1.6x multiplier

Zach LaVine: Chicago Bulls vs. New Orleans Pelicans – 1.25x multiplier

Shake Milton: Philadelphia 76ers at Milwaukee Bucks – 2.0x multiplier

Our standout SuperDraft recommendation for today is Zion Williamson. With the 1.6x multiplier, he should be in contention for a top-five overall score tonight. Similarly, we can say the same thing about Zach LaVine who should approach 20 field goal attempts tonight. Finally, we have a bit of a differentiation play with Shake Milton. If he draws a fifth straight start in the absence of Josh Richardson, that 2.0x multiplier is going to be tempting and he should be off the radar for most gamers.
