Top Contrarian Play and Why

  • Josh: At just $5,100 on FanDuel, I would have interest in Brook Lopez on any slate. On a three-gamer where he’s projected at just 8% ownership, I anticipate having a lot. I expect him to be the least popular guy from the Jokic/Gobert/Biyombo group, but I think they should all be owned similarly. This will be a primary spot I look for leverage.
  • Emac: Donte DiVincenzo. It will be interesting to see if his popularity increases as we get closer to lock. I am just fine with him coming of the bench as it helps his usage and opportunities as a scorer. We need to realize that he is in the midst of a hot shooting streak that has helped boost his last three game logs. If this was a larger slate, we would certainly be looking elsewhere, but I like this game to stay close, even at altitude in the Pepsi Center and without Giannis Antetokounmpo. Denver is just 4-5 in their last nine games and their defensive efficiency over their last 15 games is a 114.2 compared to 109.2 on the season. That means they are allowing five more points per 100 possessions and will be facing a motivated Bucks squad that lost last night having never held the lead in Phoenix. Most gamers probably will not exceed two or three Bucks per roster even with just six teams in the player pool.
  • Spags: Willy Hernangomez. I’m interested in a mixture of lower-owned guys in the $4,000 range on DraftKings tonight and Hernangomez is fairly solid. His minutes load can make the margins narrow, but the pace of this game and Hernangomez’s style of play seem to fit well, and even if he sees just 20 minutes, he can do enough damage to hit a target score for GPPs. Guys like Hernangomez, Gary Harris or Jordan Clarkson I imagine I’ll have mixed into a lot of lineups due to the short slate and hope that they can spike just enough of an upside to help out a contrarian lineup construction.
