High-Upside NBA Daily Fantasy Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel Lineups Tonight | 3/3/22

On tap for Thursday night is a seven-game NBA slate. As always, be sure to watch the Awesemo NBA Starting Lineups page closely today for updates on each team before making NBA picks. The most notable names to keep an eye on are Jimmy Butler (toe, questionable) and Trae Young (ankle, questionable). Kyle Lowry (personal) has already been ruled out for the third straight game, and with him away from the team for the last two, Gabe Vincent and Tyler Herro have scored 34 and 42 DraftKings points per game, respectively. Both guards are terrific options with Lowry ruled out and would become near must plays if Butler is also inactive. As for Young, the guard missed shootaround and his absence would open the door for Delon Wright to start and be a strong punt to consider. In the five starts he has made for Young this season, Wright has amassed 28 DraftKings points per game. Also, Bogdan Bogdanovic would become an elite target. The wing has been excellent with 37 DraftKings points per game across his last seven and leads the Hawks with a 26.4% usage rate and 1.3 DraftKings points per minute with Young and John Collins (out, foot) off the floor. Below are some NBA daily fantasy basketball picks that stand out for tonight’s slate using Awesemo’s Boom/Bust Tool and NBA DFS projections.

Boom/Bust NBA Daily Fantasy Projections & Picks

Boom: Jayson Tatum: $10,000 DraftKings/$9,400 FanDuel

37% DraftKings Boom/39% FanDuel Boom

After Jaylen Brown (ankle) exited Tuesday’s matchup with the Hawks only 2.5 minutes into the game, Tatum finished with 54 DraftKings points in the comeback win for Boston. Brown has been ruled out for tonight, and he has been excellent without Brown this season, eclipsing 50 DraftKings points in 11 of the 14 games Brown has missed. Furthermore, in the 1,060 minutes Tatum has played with Brown off the court this season, his usage has risen 3.3 percentage points to 35% and his assist rate has seen a 1.8 percentage point boost to 21.7%. This translates into 1.4 DraftKings points per minute for Tatum and tonight, he finds himself in a marquee matchup against the Grizzlies. Boston is only a 2.5-point home favorite over Memphis and this game carries the third highest total on the slate (223.5 points). Compared to the Celtics, who rank 19th in pace, the Grizzlies rank sixth, and Boston presents the sixth largest implied team total of the night in this up-tempo spot (113 points).

The Yahoo Fantasy Basketball Building Blocks article features Tatum in a big way, and EMac explains why he is locked in on him his Yahoo NBA DFS Play of the Day.

Also, not having to worry about Dillon Brooks (out, ankle) bodes extremely well for Tatum. Brooks is one of the top wing defenders in the league and Memphis has a defensive rating of 109.1 with him off the floor, compared to a rating of 104 with him on. To top it all off, today is Tatum’s birthday. He brings a ceiling over 60 fantasy points tonight and boasts a top-three boom score on the slate for both DraftKings and FanDuel in Awesemo’s Boom/Bust Tool.

Boom: Al Horford: $6,100 DraftKings/$6,200 FanDuel

36% DraftKings Boom/37% FanDuel Boom

Horford is also strong target from the Celtics with Brown sidelined, averaging 32 DraftKings points per game in the 11 starts he has made without Brown this season. With Brown off the court, Horford scores 1.03 DraftKings points per minute, in a sample size of 604 minutes.

Horford has seen 34 minutes per game across his last four starts and should continue to see big minutes in this projected nail-biter against the Grizzlies. Horford has provided 33.4 DraftKings points per game when he has topped 30 minutes this season and is rating as a top-10 value on the slate for both DraftKings and FanDuel in Awesemo’s NBA projections.

Boom: Dejounte Murray: $10,600 DraftKings/$9,600 FanDuel

35% DraftKings Boom/47% FanDuel Boom

Tonight, the Spurs will be hosting a Kings’ squad that is on the second leg of a back-to-back. Sacramento ranks second to last in defensive efficiency and seventh in pace, making them one of the premier matchups in fantasy basketball. By a huge gap, San Antonio boasts the highest implied team total of the 14 clubs competing tonight in this superb spot (124.25 points). Additionally, this matchup’s total is the largest on the board by over 10 points (241.5 points). This is one of the highest totals the NBA has seen this season and Murray is a must-have in this dream setting.

Murray has flashed massive upside since the Spurs traded Derrick White to the Celtics at the deadline, including a career-best 80 DraftKings point performance against the Hawks a few weeks ago. Murray is averaging 57.3 DraftKings points per game in the 11 starts he has made without White this season. Plus, in the 934 minutes Murray has played with White off the court, his usage and assist rates have increased 1.4 and 5.4 percentage points, respectively, resulting in 1.6 DraftKings points per minute. Murray is averaging 55 DraftKings points per game for the eight games the Spurs have carried an implied team total of 115 points or greater this season and brings a top-three ceiling on the slate in Awesemo’s Boom/Bust Tool.

Murray’s NBA projections took him to the top of the NBA optimizer when running optimal lineups today. He’s one of the top NBA DFS picks today, and more of Awesemo’s free NBA picks can be found in the DraftKings NBA Cheat Sheet and FanDuel NBA Cheat Sheet.

Boom: Gorgui Dieng: $3,000 DraftKings/$4,000 FanDuel

215 DraftKings Boom/7% FanDuel Boom

With John Collins (foot) and Onyeka Okongwu (concussion) both out tonight, Dieng is worth a gamble at his bare minimum salary on DraftKings. Both these players have missed one game collectively this season and that night, Dieng slid into Okongwu’s role as the Hawks’ primary backup center and recorded 25.25 DraftKings points across 21 minutes against the Bulls. Coincidentally, Atlanta will be going against Chicago again tonight, and Dieng should receive roughly 20 minutes off the bench, giving him plenty of time to smash value.

Dieng has averaged 1.14 DraftKings points per minute in the 269 minutes he has played with Collins and Okongwu off the court this season. The Bulls rank 20th in defensive efficiency and this game’s total is the second highest on the slate (231 points). In a sample size of six games, Dieng has contributed 19.2 DraftKings points per game when he has logged at least 15 minutes this season, and rostering Dieng helps fit both Tatum and Murray into lineups.
