On tap for Tuesday night is a four-game NBA slate. Even with only eight teams in action, this slate is filled with appealing studs and value plays. Specifically, pay close attention to the status of Zach LaVine (questionable, injury management). The shooting guard is trending towards being rested with this being the second leg of a back-to-back for the Bulls, which would likely move Coby White and make him a strong cheap play to consider. Julius Randle (quad) will miss his first game of the season tonight, presumably moving Obi Toppin into the Knicks starting five. He has been Randle’s primary backup recently and is extremely underpriced for his expected role tonight against the Hawks. Awesemo is projecting Toppin for 30.6 minutes of work and with Randle off the floor this season, Toppin has contributed one DraftKings point per minute with a 21.4% usage rate. Additionally, this is an excellent spot for Toppin, with the Hawks ranked 27th in defensive efficiency, and this game’s total being the second highest on the slate at 226.5 points.

Reaching 10-times value is a real possibility for Toppin tonight and he is a free square on both DraftKings and FanDuel. For both sites, Toppin far and away holds the highest boom score on the slate in Awesemo’s Boom/Bust Tool.

Boom: R.J. Barrett: $7,600 DK/$7,200 FD

R.J. Barrett is also an elite target with Randle inactive. With him off the floor this season, Barrett has produced 1.1 DraftKings points per minute, thanks to a massive 32.7% usage rate. This is a team-high for this situation and also a significant 5.8 percentage point upgrade from his season average. To put into perspective how large of a rate this actually is, if this was Barrett’s average for the season, he would rank top 10 in the league in usage.

In this plus matchup against the Hawks, Barrett’s NBA player prop line is very encouraging, set at 26.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists on BetMGM. Before defensive stats and bonuses are credited, this is 39.5 fantasy points for Barrett, which is already over five-times value for him at his current price points on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Barrett is a discounted stud tonight and is a core play for this short slate.

Boom: Giannis Antetokounmpo: $12,100 DK/$11,200 FD

Build around Giannis Antetokounmpo in all formats tonight. After a four-game road trip, the Bucks will be back at home this evening, hosting the Bulls. Chicago just played last night and they rank 21st in defensive efficiency for the season. By a huge margin, Milwaukee presents the highest implied team total of the eight clubs competing Tuesday with 120.25 points, and this game’s total is also the largest on the slate at 233 points. Throughout his career, Antetokounmpo has notoriously been a better fantasy asset on his home floor. When he has competed in totals of at least 230 points at home this season, Antetokounmpo has been a monster with 65 DraftKings points per game.

Plus, Khris Middleton (wrist) will be unavailable tonight, naturally putting a larger weight on Antetokounmpo’s shoulders. With Middleton off the court this season, Antetokounmpo’s assist rate has increased 5.4 percentage points to a team-high 36.3%, lifting him to 1.73 DraftKings points per minute. In Awesemo’s NBA Boom/Bust Tool, no player has a higher ceiling than Antetokounmpo tonight and he ranks second only to Toppin in terms of boom score for both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Boom: Ivica Zubac: $6,100 DK/$6,300 FD

Ivica Zubac is one of the best ways to differentiate yourself in GPPs tonight. Given he is coming off back-to-back poor outings, Awesemo NBA projections have Zubac for single-digit ownership on both DraftKings and FanDuel. If you take a deeper dive into those two starts, you will see that in the first one, the Clippers played mostly small-ball lineups to match up with the Raptors, limiting Zubac’s minutes. Then in the second start the Clippers lost by 28 points to the Jazz, cutting all their starter’s minutes significantly short.

Tonight, Zubac should get back on track in a matchup against the Nuggets that requires his size to go head-to-head with Nikola Jokic. The last time these two clubs met back on January 19th, the game went to overtime and Zubac went off for a season-high 53 DraftKings points. He saw 32.2 regulation minutes that night, showing the type of volume Zubac will likely see tonight barring another huge blowout. He is averaging 39 DraftKings points per game in the 12 games he has surpassed the 30-minute mark this season. Before this recent quiet two-game stretch, he was playing great basketball, amassing 38.4 DraftKings points per game across his previous five starts. Expect a bounce-back performance from Zubac tonight and attack him in large tournaments while most DFS players are ignoring him due to recency bias.
