The NBA Play-In Tournament kicks off tonight with the Cavaliers vs. Nets in Brooklyn and then the Clippers vs. Timberwolves in Minnesota. The winners of these two matchups will advance to the playoffs and face the No. 7 seed of their respective conference in the first round starting this weekend. As always, be sure to be watching the Awesemo NBA Starting Lineups page closely for updates on each team before making NBA picks today. Here are some NBA daily fantasy basketball picks that stand out for tonight’s slate using Awesemo’s NBA DFS Boom/Bust Tool and NBA DFS projections.
Boom/Bust NBA Daily Fantasy Projections & Picks Today
Boom: Paul George: $9,900 DraftKings/$9,600 FanDuel
25% DraftKings Boom/26% FanDuel Boom
At less than $10,000 on both DraftKings and FanDuel, George is a steal for this play-in matchup against the Wolves. He was terrific in his last start of the regular season, posting a near triple-double of 57.5 DraftKings points across 33 minutes against the Kings. With Kawhi Leonard (knee) sidelined this season, George has handled a 33% usage rate and a 28% assist percentage, both of which are career highs. Thanks to these huge rates, George is producing 1.33 DraftKings points per minute and with the Clippers’ season on the line tonight, he should see over 40 minutes against this Wolves’ club that leads the league in pace.
This game’s total is set at 230.5 points and while it is a limited sample of only four games, George has been a stud in totals of at least 225 points this season, providing 55.2 DraftKings points per game. Furthermore, during last year’s playoff run to the Western Conference Finals, George eclipsed 50 DraftKings points in six of the eight starts he made without Leonard. For both DraftKings and FanDuel, George boasts a top-five boom score on the slate in Awesemo’s NBA DFS Boom/Bust Tool.
Boom: Patrick Beverley: $5,200 DraftKings/$5,500 FanDuel
22% DraftKings Boom/20% FanDuel Boom
Beverley is a core play tonight with this two-game slate lacking appealing cheap options. As the leading veteran with by far the most playoff experience on this Wolves’ team, Beverley should receive a minimum of 30 minutes tonight against the Clippers. Beverley is an extremely emotional player and Beverley should give it his all with a chance to knock off his former team. In four matchups against Los Angeles this season, Beverley is amassing 25 DraftKings points per game. For tonight’s play-in game, Minnesota is only favored by 3.5 points and for the 35 games he has suited up for that have presented a spread under five points this season, Beverley has responded with 26 DraftKings points per game.
With so much at stake, over 30 fantasy points is a real possibility for him tonight and Beverley is rating as a top-five value on the slate for both DraftKings and FanDuel in Awesemo’s NBA daily fantasy projections.
Bust: Kyrie Irving: $10,700 DraftKings/$10,200 FanDuel
59% DraftKings Bust/56% FanDuel Bust
Priced over $10,000 on both DraftKings and FanDuel, Irving is a tough pill to swallow tonight. He will face a Cavaliers team that ranks second to last in pace and just got Evan Mobley (ankle) back two games ago. With Mobley on the floor this season, Cleveland’s defensive rating has improved to 106.8, which would rank third in the league if it were their average for the season. Just this past Friday, Irving met Mobley and this Cleveland squad in a very important game for seeding purposes and only finished with 41 DraftKings points in 39.3 minutes of work. Overall, Irving has recorded less than 50 DraftKings points in 13 of his last 20 starts.
At slightly cheaper price points on both sites, Karl-Anthony Towns is undoubtedly a better stud to pay up for tonight. Towns is averaging 51.4 DraftKings points per game in spreads under five points this season. Despite being one of the most expensive players available tonight, Towns is rating as a top 10 value on the slate for both DraftKings and FanDuel in Awesemo’s NBA daily fantasy projections.
