Mexico Open DFS Picks & Projections: Tony Finau a Solid Pivot From Jon Rahm Up Top

The Mexico Open is set to tee off, bringing big-time PGA DFS prize pools and a unique field strength. While it may not be a huge event, it’s a great week to build some lineups and have a chance for a large payoff. There will be a few guys worth considering when making teams, so let’s get into the top Mexico Open DFS picks.

Tony Finau — $10,700

Jon Rahm is in the field and atop the golfing world, and he is around +300 in the outright market for this tournament. All of that translates to almost uncharted territory for one golfer given how hard it is to win on the tour. Rahm easily could be more than 50% owned in PGA DFS contests, which gives players a chance to consider alternatives, even with the potential for him to destroy the field. Finau is the clear second choice, and there are still a ton of positives in his game. He was the runner-up here last year and gained a massive 15 strokes tee to green, and he has had fantastic iron play all season. Finau will be 20% to 30% owned, which is still a far cry from the levels Rahm is getting. Given that ownership difference, it makes sense to start plenty of lineups with Finau and work down from there.

Byeong Hun An — $9,100

An’s price is elevated, but so is his game, with only one missed cut in 2023 and a recent sixth-place finish at the Valero. The team event at the Zurich Classic isn’t overly important, but An was fine there as well and now comes to a course that could suit his game. This track seems to allow generous play off the tee and timely scrambling, both of which can benefit An. In addition, his irons are usually a strength, so it will come down to the dreaded putter to see how much upside he has. His flat stick has been positive lately, and if that continues, An will maintain his recent run of form. It is easy to fire him up for most build types.

Kevin Chappell — $7,100

Given how popular Rahm and Finau are going to be, there will be a need for some pay-down options to round out teams. Chappell, sitting just north of $7,000, is worth some interest. He missed the cut last week at the Zurich, but again, there is no need to worry about that team event. Besides that, Chappell has made four straight cuts, with all four inside the top 40. The scoring has been even better than the finishes in some regards, with a ton of birdies on the card. With this course having four par 5’s and a par 4 inside 300 yards, being able to rack up birdies is even more important. If Chappell can just find the weekend, he should easily return value.
