NBA DFS Picks Today: Building Blocks

Malik Monk: Kings at Trail Blazers

NBA DFS Projections

DFS Salary
DraftKings: $5,400 | FanDuel: $5,400

DeMar DeRozan is missing a second consecutive game with a back issue, which has kept him sidelined for four of the last seven Sacramento matchups. Trey Lyles is also out, and on the surface that is not a huge deal, though it takes away another solid wing option for the Kings.

Malik Monk missed seven games in the middle of this month with an ankle injury, but he returned in style, playing 26 minutes against Oklahoma City and then 34.7 minutes in a road victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In that game, the soon-to-be 27-year-old “God of Dunk” dropped the hammer with 27 points, including a trio of triples, accompanied by eight rebounds, nine assists and a steal. Monk has come off the bench in every game this season, so it will be interesting to see who is in the first five for Sacramento. Keon Ellis got the nod over Kevin Huerter for the last two games, so with Lyles also out, it could be Monk. Regardless of his starting status, the former Kentucky Wildcat is a strong option in all formats across the DFS sites.

Portland will be without rookie Donovan Clingan (knee) through the holidays, while Matisse Thybulle (knee) is unlikely to make his first appearance of the season until then as well. Jerami Grant (knee) is probably to miss a second straight game, and Robert Williams III (concussion) has a similar prognosis. Despite the Trail Blazers rolling with a thin rotation, they are only 6.5-point home dogs.

Sacramento ended a four-game skid in Minnesota on Wednesday, and the team is half a game out of the Play-In Tournament. That means this is a much-needed win tonight, and the Blazers have been proven to be plucky, with three of their last four victories coming against the Timberwolves (twice) and the Rockets in Houston. Anything that helps keep this game closer is a bonus for those rostering a plethora of players in the matchup.

De’Aaron Fox gains nearly 0.4 fantasy points per minute this season in his 313 minutes without DeRozan as compared to 407 minutes alongside Sacramento’s Harrison Barnes upgrade. Domantas Sabonis sees a slight uptick in fantasy production, increasing his rebounds and usage, albeit with a slightly lower assist rate. This duo each falls in the top 7 fantasy producers on DraftKings and FanDuel, and they will be the main engines propelling the offense for the Kings.

Deni Avdija is the best Portland option, regardless of who is in or out tonight for the Blazers. The former Washington Wizard continues to do a little bit of everything, though expect more rebounding tonight with the frontcourt running thin. He is a nice secondary facilitator as well, but much like his time in our nation’s capital, he still does not look for his own offense as often as he should.

Deandre Ayton can be a fantasy force when he is healthy and interested in trying. After missing seven games with a bruised right index finger, Ayton was able to answer the bell when no other centers were available for Portland. He posted his best fantasy effort of the season with 41 fantasy points, which also was the second time reaching the 40-fantasy point plateau. Over the last two calendar years, Ayton has faced Sabonis five times, averaging nearly 21 points and just over 10 rebounds. Caveat Emptor.

Anthony Davis: Lakers vs. Thunder

Shout out to FanDuel for granting Sabonis and Anthony Davis power forward eligibility, which makes for some fun tournament roster construction.

Davis is the most expensive option on the blue site while trailing only Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ($10,700) on DraftKings.

This has been a terrific season for Davis, who is averaging a career-high 29.2 points per game, which is the fifth most in the league. His 11.5 rebounds per game rank seventh and 1.9 blocks fifth. The Brow has a personal-best 57.5% effective field goal rate while going to the line 9.7 times per game, well above his 7.2 free throw attempts per tilt in his prior five seasons with Los Angeles. Davis will be battling Isaiah Hartenstein, though he fared well against him when the Thunder’s new pivot was on the Knicks.

Jalen Williams was poked in the eye during the last game, but he is not on the injury report tonight, so this is going to be a must-see game as these likely playoff squads do battle. SGA is always in the mix, though he has a lofty salary for his projected fantasy production, as does LeBron James.

Tread lightly with D’Angelo Russell, who has seen his salary drop to $4,400 on DraftKings and $5,000 on FanDuel. It has been 10 games since he moved to the bench, and he has seen more than 26 minutes only twice since this change and is averaging 24.3 over his last five appearances. Rookie Dalton Knecht (quad) is expected to play, so that keeps the minutes pretty thin for the backcourt options.

Luguentz Dort and Austin Reaves are in the mix for the featured slate on FanDuel, with Hartenstein and Russell being the more popular options on DraftKings. To be clear, yes, James, SGA and Williams are all in play, though they are tertiary targets for the full-slate contests.

Today’s Top Sports Betting Pick

Today we are going to focus on how the math works, which is something that the Portfolio EV tools take care of for you in the background.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a hefty +155 on the under for his 1.5 made 3-pointers prop. Though looking at the screen shot of Portfolio EV, we can see this wager is likely to come to fruition only 44% of the time. So how is it proffering a tremendous 12.6% expected ROI?

Well, that is where leveraging Portfolio EV to do the heavy lifting makes spotting favorable bets a breeze. With this tool, inefficient odds become easy to identify. By keeping accounts across multiple sportsbooks, you can act quickly to lock in the best available odds.

This approach effectively pits the sportsbooks against each other, revealing that SugarHouse, Unibet and BetRivers have posted +155 odds that are significantly better than those other major operators are offering. That means when Gilgeous-Alexander makes zero or one 3-pointers, a $100 wager returns $255 for a net gain of $155. Over an extended time horizon, those plus odds more than make up for this wager failing 56% of the time.

Odds are always changing, so when you see a favorable line, acting fast is crucial. That’s where Portfolio EV shines — it pinpoints the best odds available around the clock, ensuring you never miss an opportunity.

Stokastic’s Advanced NBA Statistical Projections have Gilgeous-Alexander projected for 34.7 minutes and 1.93 made 3-pointers. The “True Odds” of +127 and a 44% win rate show that there is a 12.6% expected ROI.

This season, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 2.0 made 3-pointers on 5.8 attempts (34.3%), both of which are career highs. He has connected on at least two long-range efforts in 11 of his 18 (61%) games. Though again, while this under loses more often than it wins, the +155 odds create a strong payout that will sustain backers through the down times.
