NBA DFS Value and Advice | March 17

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Charlotte Hornets

James Harden and Joel Embiid are both great plays against a fast-paced Charlotte team. Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey are reasonably priced as well. From the Charlotte side, there are no priorities, but any of the starters plus Dennis Smith Jr. off the bench are playable.

Washington Wizards vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis are all viable contrarian plays, but there are bigger priorities elsewhere on the slate. Darius Garland and Evan Mobley are both too cheap from the Cleveland side. Donovan Mitchell and Caris LeVert offer upside at low ownership as well. Ricky Rubio projects well at a near-minimum salary.

Golden State Warriors vs. Atlanta Hawks

Klay Thompson is down to $7,100 on DraftKings and is the top option from the Warriors. Kevon Looney, Donte DiVincenzo and Jonathan Kuminga offer mid-range value with no Draymond Green. Jordan Poole and Stephen Curry both offer contrarian upside as well, particularly if Poole moves into the starting lineup. Atlanta is priced correctly across the board, but you can still take tournament shots at low ownership in a game with a 247.5-point total. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray are the first choices from Atlanta.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Chicago Bulls

Rudy Gobert is the only popular player from the Minnesota Timberwolves. His playing time remains a concern, as he is typically only playing around 30 minutes, but he has been more productive since Mike Conley replaced D’Angelo Russell. Anthony Edwards and Kyle Anderson have upside, but they are correctly priced on a slate with a lot of underpriced players. Nikola Vucevic looks the best of Chicago’s big three, though Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan are certainly playable as well. Alex Caruso is questionable. If he plays, he is a decent value. If he sits, more minutes are available for Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu and Patrick Williams.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Houston Rockets

Brandon Ingram and C.J. McCollum are both strong plays. Larry Nance Jr. appears to be going a bit overlooked at just $3,500 on DraftKings after playing 22 minutes last game. Houston’s starters have been playing huge minutes recently. Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green, K.J. Martin and Alperen Sengun are all good plays at relatively low ownership. Tari Eason’s minutes have been down as a result of the starters playing so much, but he still offers upside off the bench. Jabari Smith is the most difficult starter to get to as he is the only one whose salary has increased to match his recent playing time.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs

The Grizzlies are mispriced across the board on DraftKings, which makes them an excellent target for DFS players. Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Tyus Jones are all clear priorities, and they should be staples in lineups. Dillon Brooks and Xavier Tillman are also favorably priced, making them solid options to consider. Santi Aldama could provide value off the bench, making him a viable low-cost option. On the other hand, there is less interest in the Spurs, but Tre Jones offers value as long as he remains in the starting lineup with Devonte’ Graham out. Jeremy Sochan is slightly underpriced as well, and Zach Collins should probably be more popular than he is projected to be.

Boston Celtics vs. Portland Trail Blazers

The status of Jayson Tatum is questionable and if he plays, the team doesn’t look that appealing outside of low-owned tournament fliers. However, if he sits, Jaylen Brown becomes an excellent option and Marcus Smart, Al Horford, Malcolm Brogdon and Derrick White all will also look a bit better. Anfernee Simons is underpriced at $6,200 after playing 34.4 minutes last game, and he could be a valuable asset in lineups. Damian Lillard always offers upside, but he is relatively difficult to get to given all of the underpriced guards on this slate. Jerami Grant is questionable, and if he misses the game, Trendon Watford and Jusuf Nurkic will be likely to play more minutes.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers

Kyrie Irving and Tim Hardaway Jr. are questionable for the Mavericks and if they play, there is not much to like from this team. However, if Irving sits, Jaden Hardy becomes a viable option, although he is much more expensive than he was in the previous two games. Christian Wood could also see increased playing time if one or both of Irving and Hardaway miss the game since Dallas lacks players that can put the ball in the basket. Nothing is appealing from the Lakers outside of Anthony Davis, who is a strong pay-up option at center.

Update: Tim Hardaway Jr. is expected to play.
