NBA DFS Value and Advice | May 8
New York Knicks at Miami Heat
The New York Knicks travel to Miami to take on the Heat in what is expected to be a low-scoring affair. The total is nearly 20 points less than the Lakers game, so DFS players may want to approach this game with caution. The Knicks closed their last game with Julius Randle at center, and it remains to be seen if they will go back to it. If they do, it will be a bump for Randle’s fantasy production and hurt the projections for Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein. Immanuel Quickley is doubtful, which should help solidify heavy minutes for R.J. Barrett and Josh Hart. Jalen Brunson is a secondary mid-range option, while Quentin Grimes looks like an interesting GPP play without Quickley. He could easily play more if he is playing well.
Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin are questionable for Miami, so there are no true core plays from Miami if they are in. Bam Adebayo, Butler, Kyle Lowry and Gabe Vincent look like the strongest plays from the Heat. Kevin Love, Martin and Max Strus are secondary plays as well.
Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers
This game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers is expected to be highly contested and highly targeted by DFS players. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are the two highest-upside options as usual, but Draymond Green, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins are reasonably priced as well. Donte DiVincenzo offers some value at $3,600 on DraftKings. It is worth noting that he is pulling about 2.5 times Moses Moody’s ownership despite only playing two minutes more than him last game. If looking for an unowned dart throw in GPPs, it would not be surprising to see Golden State follow up a 30-point loss with a rotation change that gives Jonathan Kuminga an opportunity to play.
On the Lakers side, the offense should continue to run through Anthony Davis and LeBron James. They are the two highest-projected players on the slate, with Davis having the higher projection at a slightly more expensive price tag. D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves remain inexpensive and look like two of the best mid-range plays. Jarred Vanderbilt, Dennis Schroder and Rui Hachimura remain secondary value options as they have been for the entire series. One big rotational change last game was that Lonnie Walker replaced Troy Brown. Not only did Walker get on the floor, but he also played more minutes than every bench player other than Reaves. He is $3,300 on DraftKings tonight, and as long as the Lakers stick with the same rotation, he looks like a good point-per-dollar value.
