Valero Texas Open DFS Picks & Projections: Corey Conners Worth the High-Priced Chalk?

The Valero Open in Texas gets underway this week as golf enthusiasts anticipate the upcoming Masters. Despite being a precursor to a more significant event, this week still has plenty of money to be made and players to break down. With a relatively weak field, the PGA DFS slate offers numerous opportunities to select players who would not typically fit into lineups. Here are a few names that PGA DFS players may want to consider when building lineups this week.

PGA DFS: Valero Texas Open DFS Picks & Projections

Corey Conners – $10,100 DraftKings

With a DraftKings salary of $10,100, Corey Conners is among the top players in this field. As a former winner at the Valero Open, Conners has an edge. He has never missed a cut here and has posted positive ball-striking numbers in every appearance. Additionally, Conners consistently performs well with the irons, and he has only missed one cut in 2023. Given that many of the other $10,000 options are dealing with potential issues, it is easy to see why Conners could be among the highest-owned players on the slate.

Sam Ryder – $7,800 DraftKings

Sam Ryder could be the ideal player to break through in this field. He is coming off a 19th-place finish at Valspar and has shown flashes of upside all year, including a fourth-place finish at the Farmers. Ryder’s putter is among the best in the world, as he has gained strokes with it in seven straight events, which provides a measure of security. Although his ball striking can be erratic, Ryder has gained four-plus strokes on approach in two of his four appearances at the Valero. While his putter has held him back in past years, Ryder’s current form makes this less likely. He could be a good dice roll for tournaments this week, and PGA DFS ownership projections suggest he will come in at around 10%.

Byeong Hun An – $7,400 DraftKings

Although his recent results may not indicate it, Byeong Hun An has been performing better than his resume suggests. He has been making cuts, with the only miss in 2023 being a withdrawal. While An’s weak club is usually his putter, he has gained in four straight events on the greens. If he can synchronize his putting with his typically reliable iron play, An could have one of his best results of the entire season. At his DraftKings salary, he fits a ton of different builds, and PGA DFS ownership projections suggest that he will have ownership of around 10%.
