The last time Malik Willis started a game for the Tennessee Titans, it wasn’t pretty. But the rookie signal-caller will have an opportunity for redemption. Ahead of the Titans’ Week 16 game against the Houston Texans, the team announced that Willis will be starting over the injured Ryan Tannehill, who suffered an ankle injury in the Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Ahead of the Week 16 NFL slate, let’s take a look at Willis’ fantasy football rankings and see if he could be an option.
Malik Willis Fantasy Football Rankings
Per Stokastic’s expert projections, Malik Willis doesn’t project to have a relatively strong showing in Week 16, and using Stokastic’s player compare tools, he only projects for 13.32 points.
Willis filled in for Tannehill during Week 8 and 9 but did little to instill confidence in Titans fans that he’s their quarterback of the future. On the year, Willis has completed just 17 of 38 passes for 177 yards. But before his second stint under center, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel says he’s seen the young quarterback grow.
“I thought he was prepared and went in there and was the most comfortable that he’s been,” Vrabel said via the team’s website on Monday.
“Malik has put a lot of work in in trying to play the game and command the huddle and do all the things we’ve talked about as far as how he needs to develop throughout the week when there aren’t a lot of reps.”
Other than the lack of reps, Willis will also be dealing with some injuries to key offensive pieces. The Titans might be without right guard Nate Davis and offensive lineman Dillon Radunz, and Treylon Burks has missed the last two games with a concussion.
Although the Texans defense hasn’t been great, they rank fifth in the league in fantasy football points allowed to opposing quarterbacks. If looking for a fantasy football option in Week 16, Willis likely isn’t the best bet.
