NFL DFS: Wild Card Weekend Injury Report

Sunday, Jan. 10

Michael Thomas, WR | New Orleans Saints (Ankle): The Saints activated Thomas from the team’s injured reserve list on Saturday. Thomas is good to go for Super Wildcard Sunday.

Alvin Kamara, RB | New Orleans Saints (COVID): The Saints activated Kamara from the team’s injured reserve/COVID list on Saturday. This is great news for the Saint’s. Kamara has been cleared to play and is a full go for Super Wildcard Sunday. Kamara is also a great DFS option this weekend.

Darnell Mooney, WR | Chicago Bears (Ankle): Still no news on Mooney yet. He entered the weekend bearing a questionable tag after not practicing all week. Riley Ridley and Javon Wims will pick up the slack if Mooney is forced to miss today’s Super Wildcard Sunday match. Update: Mooney will not play during Super Wildcard Weekend. Anthony Miller is another receiver who could benefit during Mooney’s absence.

Harrison Bryant, TE | Cleveland Browns (COVID): The Browns removed Bryant from the team’s injured reserve/COVID list Saturday morning. Bryant is expected to suit up and play during Super Wildcard Sunday when the Cleveland Browns face the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Saturday, Jan. 9

Alex Smith, QB | Washington Football Team (Calf): Smith practiced with his team this week despite dealing with a calf nagging calf injury that puts his availability for his match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in jeopardy. Reports came in late Friday evening that Smith’s calf is still sore and that there is a likely possibility that Taylor Heinicke will take snaps under center for Washington on Saturday. Check back before game time for a final update on Smith’s status. Update: Smith will not play during Wildcard Weekend. Heinicke will get the start.

Jared Goff, QB | Los Angeles Rams (Thumb): Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Goff has been able to make passes during practice as he deals with a thumb injury on his throwing hand. There were reports earlier in the week that Goff would have an uphill battle to play this Wildcard Weekend. John Wolford took first-team reps this week during practice and is prepared to start for the Rams if Goff isn’t able to play. Update: Goff Is officially active for Wildcard Sunday. Update 2: Wolford will get the start today.

LeSean McCoy, RB | Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Illness): McCoy will not play with the Buccaneers during Wildcard Weekend due to an undisclosed non-COVID-like illness. Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette look to continue playing vital roles for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers running game.

Stefon Diggs, WR | Buffalo Bills (Oblique): Diggs looks to be on the right side on his current questionable tag due to an oblique injury but is expected to play this Saturday during Wildcard Weekend. While his teammate Cole Beasley seems to be on the wrong side of his questionable tag due to a knee injury. The Bills activated wide receiver Duke Williams from the team’s practice squad on Friday. Williams’s activation may indicate that if Beasley is active, he may be limited. Update: Beasley and Diggs will play today.

Mike Evans, WR | Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Knee): Evans managed to practice in a limited capacity during the week. He hyper-extended his knee during Week 17 and his status heading into Wildcard Weekend was questionable. Tampa expects Evans to play this Saturday when the team faces the Washington Football Team. If for any reason Evans misses this game, Scott Miller will fill in for the not-so-healthy Evans. Update: Mike Evans has been cleared to play Saturday.

Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR | Cleveland Browns (Concussion): Jones sustained a concussion during Week 17 that forced him to exit the game. Jones has cleared all stages of the league’s concussion protocol and looks ready to play this Wildcard Weekend when the Browns face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Fellow receiver KhaDarel Hodge will not play this weekend due to being on the team’s injured reserve/COVID list.

A.J. Brown, WR | Tennessee Titans (Ankle): Brown was a non-participant during practice for the Titans this week. We’ve seen this kind of situation before Brown sits out practice plays without any issues. Brown told reporters on Friday, “as long as he has breath in his body, he will play.” Brown heads into this Wildcard Weekend without any injury designation and is good to go for Sunday.

Darnell Mooney, WR | Chicago Bears (Ankle): Mooney will head into this Wildcard Weekend bearing a questionable tag due to an ankle injury. Mooney’s injury kept him sidelined during practice all week. If Mooney is ruled out at the last minute, you can expect to see more of Riley Ridley and Javon Wims. Mooney is a true game-time decision.

Mark Ingram, RB | Baltimore Ravens (Undisclosed): Ingram will not play during Super Wildcard Weekend. J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards will play prominent roles in the Ravens running game on Sunday.

Thursday, Jan. 7

Michael Thomas, WR | New Orleans Saints (Ankle): The Saints placed Thomas on injured reserve during Week 14 due to an ankle injury. It appears that Thomas has made progress in his time away from the team and looks to suit up and play for the Saints Wild Card game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Thomas is a WR1 anytime he steps on the field.

Jared Goff, QB | Los Angeles Rams (Thumb): Goff underwent surgery during Week 17 to repair his broken and dislocated thumb on his throwing hand. The Rams have a Wild Card matchup against the Seattle Seahawks this Saturday, and his status is up in the air. Goff did practice with his team on Tuesday and Wednesday on a limited basis. It’s worth mentioning that Goff resumed throwing. Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the week that Goff has an uphill battle in terms of being cleared for this weekend.

Rams head coach Sean McVay has not decided on who his starting quarterback will be for Saturday’s game as of yet. Friday’s final injury report will give more clarity to this situation. If Goff isn’t able to play, the Rams will turn to John Wolford during their Wild Card round. Wolford completed 22 of 38 passes for 231 yards and an interception. He also added 56 yards of rushing to pat his stats during Week 17.

Alex Smith, QB | Washington Football Team (Calf): Smith was a limited participant at practice for Washington on Wednesday. Washington kept Smith sidelined during Tuesday’s practice as a precautionary measure. The Washington Football Team expects Smith to take snaps under center on Saturday when the Washington Football Team faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith will not be at 100% health, and his mobility may be compromised to a small degree.

Darnell Mooney, WR | Chicago Bears (Ankle): Mooney did not practice on Wednesday due to an ankle injury. Mooney will not have ample time to get healthy. The Bears will play the Saints this Wildcard Weekend, putting Mooney in some danger of missing the team’s match this Sunday.

Terry McLaurin, WR | Washington Football Team (Ankle): McLaurin did not practice with his team on Tuesday. McLaurin did practice with his team on Wednesday; however, he was limited. It seems that Washington has been managing McLaurin’s reps since suffering an ankle injury ahead of his Week 17 match against the Philadelphia Eagles. McLaurin managed to play through the injury last week. The Washington Football Team has a Wild Card round match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Saturday. McLaurin will be good to go this weekend.

Antonio Gibson, RB | Washington Football Team (Toe): Gibson was a limited participant during Washington’s Wednesday practice. The team sidelined Gibson, Alex Smith, and McLaurin on Tuesday as a precautionary measure heading into the Wild Card round game on Saturday. Gibson will play this Saturday and faces a stingy Tampa Bay running defense.

Cole Beasley, WR | Buffalo Bills (Knee): Beasley continues to battle a knee injury he sustained during Week 16. The Bills kept Beasley sidelined during practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, putting his availability for the Bills Wild Card round match in jeopardy. Isaiah McKenzie and Gabriel Davis will play more prominent roles in the Bills passing game if Beasley sits.

Stefon Diggs, WR | Buffalo Bills (Oblique): Diggs was limited on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s practice for the Bills due to an oblique injury. The limited practice sessions point towards Diggs being able to play for the Bills Wild Card game. However, it’s a situation that is very much worth paying attention to heading into Saturday.

Cooper Kupp, WR | Los Angeles Rams (COVID): The Rams have activated Kupp from the team’s injured reserve/COVID list on Wednesday. After missing Week 17 due to the COVID virus, Kupp will play with the Rams for the team’s Wild Card match on Saturday.

Mike Evans, WR | Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Knee): Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians told reporters the Evans would be a game-time decision for Saturday’s Wild Card match. Evans was a non-participant during Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s practice. However, Evans was seen doing some light running during Thursday’s practiced and earned a limited tag, which is promising. If Evans does play, he becomes a very intriguing DFS option this week.

Eric Ebron, TE | Pittsburgh Steelers (COVID): Ebron did not play during Week 17 due to being placed on the team’s injured reserve/COVID list. The Steelers activated Ebron from the COVID list to the active roster on Thursday, meaning Ebron will play during the team’s Divisional Round game.
