The Best Week 14 NFL Survivor Pool Picks & Strategy | Chargers and Packers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers clarified the meaning of his cryptic social media post sent out late Monday night amid retirement rumors

Week 13 was slightly calmer for NFL Survivor, with the most popular team (the Rams) moving on easily. However, the winless Lions upset the Vikings, who were used by almost 27% of the minuscule remaining field. Be sure to check out Awesemo’s new NFL Survivor Optimizer Tool when making NFL bets and survivor picks the rest of the way. Here are some potential NFL survivor pool picks for Week 14.

NFL Survivor Picks and Preview | Week 14

What is an NFL Survivor Pool?

There are several variations of the survivor pool format, but the most basic and common one is each Week everyone in the pool must select one team to win a game straight up, not against the spread. If the team wins, that player survives the week; if that team loses, the player is eliminated. The twist is that teams can only be used once, making it increasingly difficult as the season goes on. The pool ends when there is one player left.

Week 13 NFL Survivor Pool Picks Recap

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers were the week’s third-most popular selection, at just over 12%. Players are perhaps saving the Buccaneers for later, as their remaining schedule is fairly friendly. They face the Panthers twice and the Jets once moving forward. Either way, those that selected Tampa had a relatively comfortable Sunday. Tom Brady threw an uncharacteristic pick-six at the end of the first half, but that was the last time Atlanta put points on the board. Tampa hosts the Bills in Week 14 and are not likely to be very popular in that one.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams were losers of three straight heading into Week 13 but found the perfect opponent to snatch some momentum back. They faced the two-win Jaguars as the most popular survivor choice of the week. It was a great time to use the Rams, as this column recommended. Besides being the Week’s largest favorite, it was the last time Awesemo’s NFL Survivor Optimizer Tool projected them as double-digit favorites. Though, that could change for their Week 15 matchup with the Seahawks, depending on how both teams look in Week 14.

Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes’ struggles continued in Week 13. He threw for only 184 yards on 29 attempts, including an interception and no touchdowns. That is normally not a recipe for a Chiefs win, but this time it was. The Chiefs defense — which has had its own struggles this year — stepped up to allow only 9 points and score a touchdown of their own. Denver never had a lead and was not within 10 points at any point in the second half. Using the Chiefs this week or earlier in the year was probably for the best. They will be hard to trust moving forward, and they have a below-average 47 Future Value Rating in Awesemo’s NFL Survivor Optimizer Tool

Week 14 NFL Survivor Pool Picks

Teams Already Used: San Francisco 49ers (W), Cleveland Browns (W), Denver Broncos (W), Cincinnati Bengals (W), Baltimore Ravens (W), Indianapolis Colts (W), Arizona Cardinals (W), Kansas City Chiefs (W), Dallas Cowboys (L, switched to Miami after the fact), Buffalo Bills (W), Titans (L, switched to Buccaneers after the fact), New England Patriots (W)

With the column losing in Weeks 9 and 11, moving forward the picks for those weeks will pivot to Miami and Tampa Bay, respectively, for continuity’s sake.

Denver Broncos

While this column used the Broncos back in Week 3, they are a solid choice in Week 14. They take on the one-win Lions at home. The Lions squeaked one out last week, but they had a lot of help from the Vikings and are still the league’s worst team. Denver also projects to be the underdog in each of their games after Week 14 in Awesemo’s NFL Survivor Optimizer Tool.

With the Broncos getting a great matchup against the Lions, they’ll likely have plenty of fantasy-viable options. Check out Matt Gajewski’s Week 14 NFL DFS First Look article, where he goes in depth about a certain Broncos player and why he’s a great play on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are still available and have a great matchup at home against the Giants. They would likely be heavy favorites regardless, but Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones is doubtful, raising the odds of a Chargers win. The Chargers have a reasonably strong Future Value in Awesemo’s NFL Survivor Optimizer Tool. Most of that comes from their Week 16 matchup with the Texans. The Chargers make sense this week, but saving them until then could be crucial.

Green Bay Packers

It is somewhat surprising that this column has not used the Packers yet. They are fairly healthy, with all of their star offensive pieces in the lineup, as they take on the Bears at Lambeau Field. As 12.5-point favorites, this is the most they are projected to be favored by for the remainder of the season. They have the Lions in Detroit in the week’s final season, however.

Week 14 NFL Survivor Pick: Green Bay Packers

While there is an argument for saving the Packers until Week 18, that is not the play this time. Green Bay leads the NFC North by four games, meaning the division is wrapped up with one more win. They only face one more team with a winning record all season, so it is possible they also lock up a first-round playoff bye before their date with the Lions. That might mean resting starters, so do not bank on saving them that long. There is also a strong chance most pools will wrap up before that anyway given the string of huge upsets. The Packers should have no problems with the 4-8 Bears, making them the week’s best play.
