We will focus on three players — one quarterback, one running back and one wide receiver — to be NFL DFS picks for Week 7’s NFL Yahoo Cup contest.
NFL Yahoo Cup Fantasy Football Picks | Round 7
NFL DFS Quarterback: Matthew Stafford — $31
There are a bevy of options at quarterback this week. Awesemo’s rankings have five quarterbacks with A’s in value for the Yahoo Cup, starting with Stafford. The Rams are huge favorites against the Lions, and they are also implied for the highest point total on the slate. This makes Stafford an extremely safe pick.
Gamers sometimes stay away from quarterbacks who are large favorites. It makes sense at first blush — if their team is up big, they are likely to play slower and run the ball more. However, the overlooked part of that is how the team got up in the first place. Most of the time they built that big lead through the air. It is highly unlikely that Stafford will fail to post at least a solid score this week.
There is also an outlier chance of a massive game. Jared Goff and the Lions could keep pace here; while it is unlikely, they scored 33 points against a solid San Francisco defense. Alternatively, the Rams could let Stafford cook against his former team. It is hard to quantify the likelihood of that, but the pseudo-revenge game narrative is in play here. Stafford is one of two quarterbacks to get an A grade in both values and overall scoring this week.
NFL DFS Running Back: Devontae Booker — $14
With the pay up at quarterback, it will be necessary save some money with at least one running back this week. All three of the backs with A value grades are priced below $18, but Booker is the cheapest of the bunch. He is the likely starter for at least one more week in New York, with Saquon Barkley yet to practice as of Friday afternoon. Booker has been solid in relief despite tough matchups with the Rams and Cowboys. Carolina is not much easier, but they are the softest run defense by DVOA he will have faced this year. Booker has also had four targets in each of his games as a starter, giving him a cushion if the game script gets away from him this week.
Booker is unlikely to post a huge score, but he is even less likely to totally dud. With plenty of expensive options elsewhere in Week 7, sometimes that is all one can ask for.
NFL DFS Wide Receiver: Robert Woods — $20
Woods is the only receiver with A’s for both points and value in Awesemo’s Yahoo rankings this week, and he is a perfect complement to Matthew Stafford. While Woods has taken a back seat to Cooper Kupp ($34) this season, there should be plenty of production to go around for both players this week. Kupp’s price makes him hard to fit in Stafford lineups.
Woods has been a top-25 fantasy receiver this season and has tremendous upside in this matchup. Detroit is 25th in pass defense on the season and does not have a cornerback ranked inside of PFF’s top 45 at the position. While Woods has a slight risk of the same game flow concerns that plague Stafford, the Rams are implied for 33 points, and those points have to come from somewhere.
Woods is averaging 7.5 targets per game this season but is priced between Julio Jones ($22) and Allen Robinson ($19), who are averaging six or less. Woods would be a clear value this week on Yahoo in a neutral matchup, and his matchup is better than neutral in Week 7.
