StatHero Strategy Session: Week 15 Survivor Pool Teams to Target and RIVALS Recap

The NFL regular season is winding down, but Week 15 NFL survivor pools are still in full swing for many over at StatHero. StatHero provides a new way to play fantasy: Each week, they will release a lineup consisting of five players from the same team. That will be the only team unavailable to use in the contest. Simply pick five players from a different team to face off against StatHero’s lineup, and if you beat it, advance to the next week. But this is an NFL survivor-style contest, so once you use a team, they’ll be unavailable going forward. If you’re still standing at the end, you’ll split the entire prize pool with any other remaining contestants. StatHero Strategy Session: Week 15 NFL Survivor Pool Teams to Target

Tennessee Titans

Week 15 features some brand new NFL survivor contests that run from now until the end of the season. With five buy-in levels ranging from $5 up to $100, there’s a multitude of game play options for everyone to enjoy. Each contest has a different StatHero lineup to face-off against in the first round, and whichever team is utilized is unavailable to all other players in the contest for the week.

The Tennessee Titans, however, are not among the five lineups utilized by StatHero in this week’s new survivor contests. With the largest implied team total currently on the slate (31.5) and a God amongst men in the backfield (Derrick Henry), they’re an incredible team to target in this format. The Titans are fresh off a 31-10 stomping of the Jaguars where King Henry took 26 carries and turned them into 215 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He now draws a lethargic Lions rush defense that ranks 29th in the NFL surrendering 132.8 yards on the ground per game. I expect Henry to feast yet again, making him one of the most elite MVP slot options on this slate.

But Henry isn’t the only Titan in a massive smash spot Sunday. Ryan Tannehill, the obvious plug-and-play quarterback for this lineup build, has two wide receivers playing at elite levels of late. The physical A.J. Brown is coming off a monster nine-target, seven-catch outing Sunday for 112 yards and a touchdown. Six-foot-three Corey Davis has arguably been the most improved wideout in the league, an impressive feet for a fourth-year wideout with a multitude of other weapons absorbing stats around him. In fact, he’s failed to reach double-digits in PPR scoring only twice this season. In other words, it’s easy to see a path where these four options alone outscore most lineups on their own.

I suppose the only question mark with this club is who to slot in for your final flex option. With Geoff Swaim questionable for Sunday, tight ends Jonnu Smith and Anthony Firsker could see a slight increase in opportunity. My lean would be Smith as of right now, but neither feel like make-or-break options. As long as King Henry does typical King Henry things against the lowly Lions, you’re in good hands. And sure, I expect the Titans to be popular, but don’t let that stop you; they’re an elite play on this slate.

Green Bay Packers

While the Titans might be my preferred option, the Packers’ matchup against the Panthers grades out as the next-best thing. The main reason for that belief is the locked-in production provided by one Davante Adams in the MVP slot. The Packers star wide receiver has been downright nonsensical this season, averaging 104 receiving yards per game with a whopping fourteen touchdowns in just eleven games. His rapport with Aaron Rodgers is undeniable, and against a bottom-half Panthers defensive unit there’s no signs of that stopping on Saturday.

The rest of the Packers lineup virtually builds itself. Aaron Jones is an autoplay in this offense, especially after out-snapping fellow running back Jamaal Williams to the tune of a 70% snap share in Week 14. Tight end Robert Tonyan gets the honor of facing a Panthers zone defense that’s been completely torched by the position for weeks on end. And despite his lackluster performances of late, Allen Lazard has seen 69% of the snaps in the past two weeks. It’s only a matter of time before he has a big outing.

New RIVALS Game Type Recap

Week 14 brought with at an exciting new game type at StatHero. RIVALS is an opportunity to play a salary-based game where StatHero plays the roll of the first ever DFS Sportsbook; simply pick five players under the salary cap to face off against a predetermined lineup and the winner-takes-all. That means it’s just you versus StatHero head-to-head.

Last week was most likely profitable if you rolled with Derrick Henry or Davante Adams in the MVP slot, like I fortunately did:

The MVP spot can right a lot of wrongs, as there were multiple mistakes I made throughout the rest of my builds. While it should be somewhat obvious, utilizing Henry, Adams or any other top-tier player is a must in this format. It saved me in both the main and afternoon slates, as I escaped profitable by simply jamming in the best plays that acquired double the points.

The RIVALS salaries and lineup have not been released yet for Week 15, but I’ll be sure to update a few plays from my Twitter (@EricLindquist) as soon as they are. This is an exciting new format where there are no surprises; see StatHero’s lineup, build your own against it, and you’re ready to go. Doesn’t get more pure than that.
