The preseason has finally arrived, and Week 1 continues with two slates on Saturday (Aug. 13, 2022). Preseason DFS creates an unique environment where information reigns supreme. Finding which players will play the most can significantly increase the likelihood of NFL preseason DFS success. This piece will dig into the roster of each team and pinpoint exactly where that value might come from and be the ultimate guide for making the best NFL DFS picks tonight for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.

Carolina Panthers

QB 1 – Baker Mayfield – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – 16 snaps – Mayfield played with Cleveland last preseason. 

QB 2 – Sam Darnold – 0 snaps – 7 snaps – 41 snaps – Darnold completed 74.1% of his passes for 178 yards and 2 TDs last preseason. 

QB 3 – PJ Walker – 31 snaps – 12 snaps – 18 snaps – Walker completed 41% of his passes for 252 yards and 1 TD. 

QB 4 – Matt Corral – Corral was the 94th pick in the 3rd round out of Ole Miss. Corral is extremely mobile and ran for 506 and 614 yards in back to back years with Ole Miss. 

RB 1 – Christian McCaffrey – McCaffrey did not play last preseason. 

RB 2 – D’Onta Foreman – 7 snaps – 13 snaps – 12 snaps – Foreman rushed 16 times for 59 yards and 1 TD with Atlanta last preseason. 

RB 3 – Chuba Hubbard – 28 snaps – 21 snaps – 35 snaps – Hubbard rushed 26 times for 139 yards. He also caught 6 of 10 targets for 46 yards. 

RB 4 – Spencer Brown – 21 snaps – 17 snaps – 28 snaps – Brown rushed 24 times for 84 yards and 1 TD. Brown caught his only target for 1 yard. 

RB 5 – Darius Bradwell – 5 snaps – 18 snaps – 13 snaps – Bradwell rushed 9 times for 32 yards and 1 TD. He also caught all 5 of his targets for 13 yards. 

RB 6 – Giovani Ricci  – Full Back. 

WR 1 – DJ Moore – Moore did not play last preseason. 

WR 2 – Robby Anderson – 0 snaps – 6 snaps – 38 snaps – Anderson caught 3 of 6 targets for 31 yards last preseason.

WR 11 – Ra’Shaun Henry – Henry is a UDFA out of Virgina. He is 6-3, 190 pounds and ran a 4.43 40-yard dash at his pro day. 

WR 12 – Derek Wright –  Wright is a UDFA out of Utah State. He is 6-1, 195 pounds and ran a 4.55 40-yard dash at his pro day. 

TE 1 – Ian Thomas – 0 snaps – 9 snaps – 22 snaps – Thomas caught his only target for 9 yards last preseason. Thomas will miss 1-2 weeks with an injury to his ribs as of Aug. 10. 

TE 2 – Tommy Tremble – 22 snaps – 17 snaps – 14 snaps – Tremble caught 7 of 8 targets for 82 yards and 1 TD last preseason. 

TE 3 – Stephen Sullivan – 11 snaps – 3 snaps – 15 snaps – Sullivan caught both of his targets for 5 yards last preseason. Sullivan missed practice on Aug. 9 for a personal matter. 

TE 4 – Colin Thompson– 17 snaps – 15 snaps – 14 snaps – Thompson caught his only target for 1 yard last year. Thompson was in a red non-contact jersey on Aug. 9. 

TE 5 – Josh Babicz – Babicz is a UDFA out of North Dakota State. He is 6-6, 255 pounds and ran a 4.87 40-yard dash. He caught 12 balls for 254 yards in the Bison’s prehistoric offense. Babicz was carted off the field on Aug. 10 with an undisclosed injury. 

TE 6 – Jared Scott – Scott is a UDFA out of Idaho/Jacksonville State. He is 6-6, 240 pounds and caught 41 balls for 340 yards in his final year.

QB 1 – Carson Wentz – Wentz didn’t play last preseason, but he is expected to play a little bit in preseason Week 1 this year. According to Rivera, starters will get between 15-20 snaps. 

QB 2 – Taylor Heinicke – 27 snaps – 31 snaps – 0 snaps – Heinicke threw for 166 yards on 28 attempts last preseason. 

QB 3 – Sam Howell – Howell was the 144th pick in the 5th round out of North Carolina. He is 6-1, 218 pounds and ran for 828 yards last year.

RB 1 – Antonio Gibson – 11 snaps – 13 snaps – 0 snaps – Gibson returned to practice after sitting out with an injured hamstring on Aug. 5. 

RB 2 – JD McKissic – 9 snaps – 4 snaps – 0 snaps – McKissic missed two practices in a row, but returned on Aug. 11. 

RB 3 – Jaret Patterson – 27 snaps – 35 snaps – 18 snaps – Patterson rushed 28 times for 110 yards and 1 TD. He also caught 10 of 13 targets for another 70 yards.

RB 6 – Reggie Bonnafon – Bonnafon did not play last preseason. He did play a little bit for Carolina over the last three seasons.

WR 2 – Jahan Dotson– Dotson was the 16th pick in the 1st round out of Penn State. He is 5-11, 178 pounds and ran a 4.43 40-yard dash. 

WR 3 – Curtis Samuel – Samuel did not play last preseason, but he will play this year. He practiced on Aug. 11.

TE 3 – Sammis Reyes – 33 snaps – 0 snaps – 22 snaps – Reyes caught 3 of 4 targets for 27 yards. Reyes had been dealing with an injured hamstring, but he is now back. 

TE 4  – Cole Turner – Turner was drafted 149th overall in the 5th round out of Nevada. He is 6-7, 246 pounds and ran a 4.52 40-yard dash. Turner is dealing with a hamstring injury and only rode the bike on Aug. 11. 

TE 5 – Armani Rogers – Rogers is a UDFA out of Ohio. He is 6-5, 225 pounds and ran a 4.58. He is a former college quarterback and now going through a position change. He has been excelling with all of the TE injuries around him. 

TE 6 – Curtis Hodges– Hodges is a UDFA out of Arizona State. He is 6-8, 257 pounds and ran a 4.85 40-yard dash. Hodges has been in and out of the lineup. He was on the side field on Aug. 8, but he has since returned.

QB 1 – Patrick Mahomes – Mahomes is unlikely to play. 

QB 2 – Chad Henne – 15 snaps – 9 snaps – 0 snaps 

QB 3 – Shane Buechele – 24 snaps – 19 snaps – 50 snaps – Buechele completed 67.3% of his passes for 422 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 INTs. He also rushed 9 times. 

QB 4 – Dustin Crum – Crum is a UDFA out of Kent State. He is 6-1, 210 pounds and rushed for 703 yards in 2021. 

RB 1 – Clyde Edwards-Helaire – 10 snaps – 5 snaps – 0 snaps 

RB 2 – Jerick McKinnon – 15 snaps – 23 snaps – 8 snaps – McKinnon rushed 10 times for 46 yards and caught 6 of 7 passes for 46 yards and 1 score with Kansas City last year.

RB 6 – Jerrion Ealy – Ealy is a UDFA out of Ole Miss. He is 5-8, 189 pounds and ran a 4.52 40-yard dash. Ealy is moving between WR and RB. 

RB 7 – Tayon Fleet-Davis – Fleet-Davis is a UDFA out of Maryland. He is 6-0, 220 pounds and ran a 4.73 40-yard dash.

QB 3 – Nathan Peterman – 80 snaps – 50 snaps – 52 snaps – Peterman completed 68.5% of his passes for 593 yards, 2 TDs, and 4 INTs with Las Vegas last  year. 

RB 1 – David Montgomery – 1 snap – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – Montgomery missed practice on Aug. 11. He isn’t expected to play. 

RB 2 – Khalil Herbert – 23 snaps – 22 snaps – 20 snaps – Herbert rushed 14 times for 63 yards and 1 TD. He also caught 5 of 6 targets for 24 yards. 

RB 3 – Trestan Ebner – Ebner was the 204th pick of the 6th round out of Baylor. He is 5-11, 206 pounds and ran a 4.48 40-yard dash. Ebner is an excellent pass catcher and had at least 20 receptions in all five of his college seasons.

RB 5 – De’Montre Tuggle – Tuggle is a UDFA out of Ohio. He is 5-10, 198 pounds and ran a 4.59 40-yard dash at his pro day. Tuggle rushed for 804 yards on 138 carries and caught 16 passes in a timeshare last year. 

RB 6 – Khari Blasingame – Blasingame is a fullback.

WR 5 – Velus Jones – Jones was the 71st pick in the 3rd round out of Tennessee. He is 6-0, 204 pounds and ran a 4.31 40-yard dash. Jones missed practice on Aug. 11 and isn’t likely to play. 

WR 6 – Isaiah Coulter – 19 snaps – 0 snaps – 22 snaps – Coulter caught 2 of 3 targets for 17 yards with Houston & Chicago last preseason. Coulter ran as the 1st team’s WR on Aug 10 due to injuries. 

WR 7 – Tajae Sharpe – 12 snaps – 22 snaps – 17 snaps – Sharpe caught 2 of 6 targets for 27 yards with Atlanta last preseason. Sharpe has been working with Fields. 

WR 8 – Nsimba Webster – 19 snaps – 12 snaps – 22 snaps – Webster caught 2 of 4 targets for 18 yards. 

WR 9 – Dazz Newsome – 8 snaps – 18 snaps – 26 snaps – Newsome caught 2 of 3 targets for 26 yards. Newsome has mostly been working with Peterman, but he has kick returning upside. 

WR 10 –  Kevin Shaa – Shaa is a UDFA out of Liberty. He is 5-11, 165 pounds and ran a 4.31 40-yard dash at his pro day. Shaa has been working with Siemian.

WR 11 – David Moore – 14 snaps – 15 snaps – 12 snaps – Moore caught 3 of 6 targets for 45 yards last preseason with Carolina. Moore went down with a leg injury on Aug. 11

WR 12 – Chris Finke– Finke didn’t play last preseason. He is a 2020 UDFA out of Notre Dame. He is 5-10, 180 pounds and a tiny slot receiver.  

WR 13 – Dante Pettis – 24 snaps – 38 snaps – 34 snaps – Pettis caught 4 of 10 targets for 33 yards with the Giants last preseason. Pettis returned to practice on Aug. 11. Pettis is working with Peterman exclusively. 

TE 1- Cole Kmet – 7 snaps – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – Cole Kmet missed practice on Aug. 11. He isn’t expected to play. 

TE 2 – Ryan Griffin – 7 snaps – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – Griffin played with the Jets last year. He missed practice on Aug. 11. 

TE 3 – James O’Shaughnessy – 11 snaps – 15 snaps – 13 snaps – O’Shaughnessy caught all 3 of his targets for 27 yards with Jacksonville last preseason. He missed practice on Aug. 11. 

TE 4 – Rysen John – 12 snaps – 35 snaps – 0 snaps – John caught all 6 of his targets for 72 yards last year with the New York Giants. 

TE 5 – Chase Allen – Allen is a UDFA out of Iowa State. He is 6-6, 251 pounds and ran a 4.79 40-yard dash. He spent about 50% of his snaps blocking.

QB 1 – Matt Ryan – Ryan will reportedly play in Week 1. Starters shouldn’t be out there for more than a series or two.

QB 2 – Nick Foles – 12 snaps – 0 snaps – 26 snaps – Foles is a veteran and has experience with this staff. 

QB 3 – Sam Ehlinger – 39 snaps – 29 snaps – 6 snaps – Ehlinger completed 67.7% of his passes for 288 yards, 0 TDs, and 3 INTs. He is very mobile and rushed 5 times for 55 yards and a fumble. 

QB 4 – Jack Coan – Coan is a UDFA out of Notre Dame. He is a 6-3, 218 pound pocket statue. 

RB 1 – Jonathan Taylor – 

RB 2 – Nyheim Hines – 0 snaps – 11 snaps – 0 snaps 

RB 3 – Phillip Lindsay – 8 snaps – 6 snaps – 8 snaps – Lindsay played with Houston last year and carried 15 times for 33 yards last year. 

RB 4 – Deon Jackson – 15 snaps – 13 snaps – 20 snaps – Jackson rushed 19 times for 110 yards, 1 TD, and 1 fumble. He was a 2021 UDFA out of Duke. He is 6-0, 220 pounds. 

RB 5 – Ty’Son Williams – 36 snaps – 31 snaps – 14 snaps – Williams rushed 24 times for 130 yards and 1 TD with Baltimore last year. He also caught 8 of 8 targets for 37 yards. Williams returned to practice on Aug. 10. 

RB 6 – CJ Verdell – Verdell is a UDFA out of Oregon. He is 5-8, 194 pounds and ran a 4.65 40-yard dash. 

RB 7 – D’Vonte Price – Price is a UDFA out of FIU. He is 6-1, 210 pounds and ran a 4.38 40-yard dash. 

WR 1 – Michael Pittman – 

WR 2 – Alec Pierce – Pierce was drafted 53rd overall in the second round out of Cincinnati. He is 6-3, 211 pounds and ran a 4.41 40-yard dash. He wasn’t highly recruited and played volleyball. His late transition to football contributed to a lack of production at Cincinnati. 

WR 3 – Parris Campbell – 10 snaps – 19 snaps – 0 snaps – Campbell has been limited in some practices, but he is expected to play in the preseason opener. 

WR 4 – Ashton Dulin – 12 snaps – 27 snaps – 0 snaps – Dulin caught 2 of 5 targets for 7 yards. 

WR 5 – Dezmon Patmon – 52 snaps – 37 snaps – 11 snaps – Patmon caught 11 of 12 targets for 173 yards. He is a former 6th round pick out of Washington State. He stands 6-4, 228 pounds. Patmon was getting stretched out by trainers on Aug 10. This could be something to monitor. He has been working with Foles. 

WR 6 – Keke Coutee – 19 snaps – 13 snaps – 24 snaps – He caught 6 of 11 targets for 58 yards with Houston last year. He is a former 4th round pick. He is 5-11, 180 pounds and ran a 4.43 40-yard dash.  

WR 7 – Michael Strachan – 34 snaps – 43 snaps – 49 snaps – Strachan caught 10 of 16 targets for 130 yards. He is another 6-5, 224 pound receiver, who played at Charleston before coming out in 2021. Strachan has been rehabbing his knee following an offseason injury. 

WR 8 – Isaiah Ford – 15 snaps – 0 snaps – 0 snaps – He played with Miami last preseason, but only caught 2 passes for 13 yards. He recorded 102 and 70 receiving yards the two preseason prior. Ford has been working with Ehlinger. 

WR 9 – DeMichael Harris – 25 snaps – 24 snaps – 22 snaps – Harris caught 2 of 3 targets for 9 yards last year. Harris missed practice on Aug. 11. 

WR 10 – Samson Nacua – Nacua is a UDFA out of BYU. He is 6-3, 195 pounds and ran a 4.48 40-yard dash. Nacua has been pretty deep on the depth chart and working with Coan. 

WR 11 – Michael Young – Young is a UDFA out of Cincinnati. He is 5-10, 195 pounds.

WR 12 – John Hurst– 6 snaps – 33 snaps – 19 snaps – Hurst caught 2 of 3 targets for 20 yards last year. 

WR 13 – Ethan Fernea – Fernea is a UDFA out of UCLA. He is 6-0, 195 pounds and ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at his pro day. He never really got on the field with UCLA.

RB 5 – Mataeo Durant – Durant is a UDFA out of Duke. He is 6-1, 195 pounds. He rushed for 1,241 yards on 255 carries, while catching 27 passes for another 256 yards. Durant returned to practice Aug. 11. 

RB 6 – Master Teague – Teague is a UDFA out of Ohio State. He is 5-11, 225 pounds and ran a 4.44 at his pro day. He is woefully inefficient. 

WR 1 – Diontae Johnson 9 snaps, 17 snaps, 33 snaps, 0 snaps – Johnson has a banged up shoulder. It looks minor, but should be enough to hold him out.

TE 5 – Erik Krommenhoek – Krommenhoek is a UDFA out of USC. He is 6-6, 250 pounds and ran a 4.84 40-yard dash. 

TE 6 – Stone Smartt – Smartt is a UDFA out of Old Dominion. He is 6-4, 232 pounds and ran a 4.59 40-yard dash. Smartt played quarterback in college and now makes the transition to tight end. Smartt is on the NFI list and won’t play. 

TE 7 – Sage Surratt – Surratt is a former WR and recently converted to tight end in the USFL.
