Yahoo NFL Picks: Week 6 Thursday Night Football | Buccaneers vs. Eagles

Tonight the Philadelphia Eagles are hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the Week 6 featured Thursday Night Football matchup, and Yahoo Fantasy is offering NFL DFS single-game contests. The general concept of creating a team remains the same, but this is a one-game player pool. The twist is that any position player can be rostered, and one is designated to receive a 1.5x multiplier on their Yahoo fantasy points. Using Awesemo’s expert NFL projections and rankings, these are the top Yahoo NFL picks for the Thursday Night Football game tonight.

Yahoo NFL Picks: Week 6 Thursday Night Football

Top SUPERSTAR Options

The SUPERSTAR position will get a 1.5x multiplier on their Yahoo points in the single-game format.

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles – $36

Tonight should be an interesting matchup of skills and styles. Tampa Bay has the third-best rushing DVOA, and they rank 18th in passing DVOA. To date they have yet to face a quarterback with the style mix of Jalen Hurts. Dak Prescott hung 403 yards passing on the Buccaneers, though he is not running much as he works his way back from last year’s horrific ankle injury. Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford and Mac Jones generally do not run, and while Jacoby Brissett is capable, that is not the style of Miami’s offense.

Hurts leads the Eagles with 256 yards rushing and three touchdowns. When combining this with three games of multiple touchdowns through the air and a pair of 300-yard passing games, he is a tantalizing option in all fantasy formats. The one real concern is that this will be just the 10th start of Hurts’ career, but that should not dissuade from making him a priority play tonight.

Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – $40

This season Tom Brady has attempted 40-plus passes in four games, surpassing 50-plus in two. The lone week where he did not reach this milestone, he had 36 attempts for 275 yards and five touchdowns. The Buccaneers still throw the ball when they are up big, and with Brady having so many talented pass catchers at his disposal, Tampa is a threat to score from anywhere on the field no matter the game flow.

Yahoo NFL Core Picks

Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – $19

Keep in mind that the half-PPR scoring format on Yahoo does not punish running backs as much as full-PPR, and it keeps the receivers from racing out too far ahead unless they are scoring touchdowns. It looks like a solid 70% of the work in the running game is going to Leonard Fournette, along with nearly half of the passing work. While he needs 100-plus combined yards or a touchdown to validate his salary, he has done that in the last two games. Philadelphia is a mediocre defense, and the Buccaneers should continue to keep their opponents from making stopping the run a priority.

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – $23

It is hard to choose a favorite among the talented receiving trio for Tampa Bay. Mike Evans has two multi-touchdown games, and he is a threat from anywhere on the field. Antonio Brown is coming off a terrific two-game stretch of 19 targets for 14 receptions, 187 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The hope with this recommendation is that Chris Godwin will be overlooked by the game-log watchers and the “what have you done for me lately” crowd. The volume in the Buccaneers passing attack can certainly support two 100-yard receivers, and there will probably be a game this season where Brady lifts all three of his wideouts to that milestone in the same game. Tonight go with the “disappointing” Godwin, who easily could find himself on the end of two touchdowns on Thursday Night Football.

Yahoo NFL Value Picks

Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles – $14

It seems like Dallas Goedert will not clear the COVID-19 protocol, which means Zach Ertz will be sharing the tight end duties with undrafted rookie Jack Stoll, who does not have a target this season while averaging just 6.5 snaps per game. This by no means guarantees a great outing for Ertz, but it gives him a leg up, and combined with tonight’s salary, he is one of the best discount dandies available.

Final Thoughts

There are quite a few interesting strategies to look at with lineup construction tonight. Brady is likely to be on 75% of all rosters, so one route could be putting Hurts in the SUPERSTAR slot, leaving Brady off the roster entirely and rolling out two or even all three of Brad’s receivers. In this type of a build, the hope would be for a lot of short passes to build up the half-PPR points and capture all of Brady’s touchdowns while he has an average game of around 300 yards. Receiving touchdowns are worth 6 points, while passing touchdowns are worth two and receiving yards are worth more than passing yards. This could lead to a somewhat unique lineup, which could race by the Brady teams on the leaderboard.
