Mac Jones, New England Patriots – $27
Tonight is going to be an interesting game filled with many fantasy decisions to be made leading up to kickoff. There are a pair of quarterbacks who rarely leave the pocket yet possess the two best fantasy projections of the night. Rookie Mac Jones barely ran in his time at Alabama, and this season he has just 59 yards on 19 attempts. Coach Bill Belichick has been very careful with his game plans and protecting his first-round asset. With only 41 pass attempts in the last two games, the Patriots will certainly look to run tonight. However, a matchup against a dismal pass defense is a perfect spot to continue to build up Jones’ courage. Something in the range of 225 to 250 yards passing and a couple of touchdowns is quite reasonable.
Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons – $26
If a quarterback throws passes but does not have any NFL-caliber wide receivers, will he still accumulate fantasy points? That is the question for tonight, as Matt Ryan will likely end up throwing 35 to 40 times. Aside from his talented, yet raw rookie tight end Kyle Pitts ($17), the cupboard is pretty bare, with Russell Gage ($12), Olamide Zaccheaus ($11) and Tajae Sharpe ($10) barely even replacement level. That said, with Cordarrelle Patterson ($21) likely to miss this game, the running backs have even less talent than the receivers.
Yahoo NFL Core Picks
Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevens, New England Patriots – $21
Damien Harris should be back after missing last week with a concussion, and he is likely to resume his role as the lead back. Rookie Rhamondre Stevens was excellent last week in a spot start, with 20 carries for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tonight there will likely be a 60/40 split, with Harris getting the first crack but Stevens right there if he falters or the game requires mop-up duty.
Awesemo’s Matt Savoca has an in-depth breakdown of the Patriots’ muddy backfield situation in his Thursday Night Football Matchup Breakdown & NFL DFS Picks article.
Hunter Henry, New England Patriots – $19
Jonnu Smith ($10) missed Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury, and there is no need for New England to rush him back for tonight. Though Hunter Henry has topped 42 yards only once, he has seven touchdowns this season and has scored in six of his last seven games. With his salary a tick above Jakobi Myers ($15) and Kendrick Bourne ($16), along with gamers being reluctant to roster tight ends in the single-game format, Henry is a nice differentiation play that could easily be a difference maker tonight.

Mike Davis, Atlanta Falcons – $11
This has been a lost season for Mike Davis, who was solid last year as the replacement for Christian McCaffrey, and he was also above average in 2018 for Seattle when their backfield was dealing with injuries. Davis is still only 28 years old, and he has far less wear and tear on him than the average back does, as he has played in just 63 games. Wayne Gallman ($10) is at a similar point in his career from a talent perspective, though if Patterson is out, this duo is in play. He will need a touchdown, and there is not enough volume to justify playing both on the same roster, but they are each viable punt options on their own.
Final Thoughts
The popular lineup builds are going to use both quarterbacks, one of the Patriot running backs and then two cheap pass catchers among Meyers, Gage, Zaccheaus, Sharpe and Nelson Agholor. That means by forgoing one of the quarterbacks gamers can easily pivot to the other Patriot running back and upgrade one of the cheap receivers. Another way would be to keep both quarterbacks but focus on nothing but pass catchers in the hopes of corralling most of the touchdowns. There is a lot of strategy in decisions tonight, and while the game may not be appealing now, interest level will surge once players are on the field.
