DraftKings and FanDuel NHL DFS Power Plays, Monday 4/22

This NHL Monday features a two-game slate. First off, let me remind you of the Votts media list and a few links to follow on this edition of NHL Power Plays. DFS players take notice of any and all changes.

When you are making your teams, one needs to make sure your goalie is confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great source exists in the form of team beat writers.  Jeff has created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS  for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. The advanced stats that I use and reference in this article come from Corsica.hockey and naturalstattrick.com.

NHL DFS GPP Power Plays For Monday

High Priced Shot

Alexander Radulov ($7,000) — Radulov joined the top line for almost a full game on Saturday and the results were mind-boggling. The line had three of the five goals on Saturday in Nashville. While Radulov is not expected to replicate his two-goal performance over the weekend, he is expected to generate his fair share of chances. After that, it’s all about execution.

Monday NHL Locks?

Alex Ovechkin ($7,900) — Ovechkin is a chalky option but still a good one. His floor dropped a bit but is still good enough to expect three to five shots on goal and a block. The question comes down to real-world points. One needs at least a goal and maybe a goal and assist to hit value. Yes, the $9,000 FanDuel price tag is high but then again the chances of a goal are among the highest on the slate. Alas, the one thing Washington has going for it is the power play and the potential on the man advantage. which drives this choice.

Roman Josi ($6,200) — Josi produces mostly consistent point totals in almost every contest. Also, that number of blocks and shots blocks totals around five which is a prime number. Josi has five points in his last nine games but again plays in all situations for Nashville and has mustered nine scoring chances in his last four contests. Josi’s FanDuel price is approaching $7,000 which is Brent Burns territory. John Carlson is a solid alternative if one is going to chase value among the highest priced defensemen.

Into The Middle

Jordan Staal ($4,400) — With a two-game slate on tap, many will just be looking for an edge in any way they can get it, and Staal offers that option. However, do keep in mind his FanDuel price has hit $5,000. That may not impact a decision much but it does make one wonder. Look to Staal as a home wonder of sorts. Evgeny Kuznetsov is another choice and has nearly a point a game over his previous ten contests.

Tom Wilson ($5,000) — This price is a bargain, with Wilson taking over T.J. Oshie’s PP1 spot while the second line winger is out. Wilson is not quite 100%, but both player and coach believe the nagging injury is a minor issue and he should be unencumbered. Wilson tallied three points in his last four games. He is kind of a home-only play at this point but his numbers lighten the risk some because he plays with Alex Ovechkin.

Throwing Some Darts

Jason Dickinson ($3,200) — Dickinson scored twice on Saturday on four shots. If he can continue to keep raising that shot level, that will help greatly. Dickinson had a couple scoring chances in each of the last two games. His FanDuel price is that of a punt play still and even on DraftKings, it is more or less a punt play. The concern is simple. Shoot the puck! If Dickinson does not, he will slide back down the Dallas depth chart and fast.

Warren Foegele ($3,600) — The craziness of this run by Foegele is just something. He has seven points and five goals in the previous nine games. This is all on a shot volume that is less than two per night.

Grading The NHL Goalies

Looking towards the lesser goalies tonight might actually pay off in GPP’s. Don’t stray too far from what works. Ben Bishop as cash and even GPP play again is not a bad idea. Petr Mrazek is the cheapest starting goalie on the slate and comes in just under $8.000 on both platforms.

Again, confirmations are a different animal in the playoffs. Most “starters” will play barring something unforeseen. As of now, all starters from game five will play in game six. There is zero change. If there was a hierarchy as far as GPP’s and risk it might go something like this.

  • Ben Bishop
  • Petr Mrazek
  • Pekka Rinne
  • Braden Holtby

More picks and choices will be available on Slack and social media later.

Some Final Bits Of Advice

Teams to pile on the rabbit I mean stack on Monday. This is important due to some under the radar stacking chances.

  • Dallas 1 — look at Dallas 2 for alternatives
  • Washington 1
  • Carolina 2
  • Nashville 1 — the wingers
  • Carolina 1 — high-risk
  • Rocco Grimaldi / Warren Foegele one-off

Those are just to name a few.

Best of luck on Saturday! This expects to feature much more in the way of chaos, slate wise. Let’s do that playoff hockey!
