Once you’re done reading the Stacks of the Day, you’re going to need some players to fill in the rest of your roster. Below are a few guys that we’re spotlighting on tonight’s fun 5-game NHL slate. Awesemo will start with a quote, then I (Tommienation1) will follow up with some additional analysis.
Top-Tier
Patrice Bergeron ($7,100 DK/$8,000 FD)
“Bergeron should be considered in all-formats tonight at home against a leaky Leafs’ top line in a game where he could see over 20 minutes of ice time.”
If this game stays close, Bergeron (“A” points grade) will see all the ice time he can handle as he’ll be tasked with shutting down Auston Matthews. Matthews’ line is pretty poor defensively, allowing 32.4 Scoring Chances Against per 60 minutes and 12.2 High-Danger Chances Against per 60 minutes. Bergeron should be one of the highest-owned players on the night, but the matchup and the caliber of player he is make it hard to argue against him.
Nikita Kucherov ($7,900 DK/$8,700 FD)
“The Lightning’s implied total is up to 3.3 in a home game against the Devils. A high-volume shooter like Kucherov should have a lot of chances to create points tonight.”
Kucherov (“A” points grade) is one of the top spend-up options on the slate tonight as we’ve got a team total we can get behind, as well as an above-average matchup against the Devils. Over the last month, the Devils have allowed the 2nd-most Corsi Against per 60 minutes and the 7th-most Scoring Chances Against per 60 minutes, and if they don’t tighten things up tonight, they could get run out of the building against this high-powered Tampa team. Kucherov being one of the highest volume shooters in the NHL makes him worth this price.
Mid-Tier/Value
P.K. Subban ($4,900 DK/$5,500 FD)
“Subban should see big minutes tonight for the Predators, who have the highest implied total on the slate.”
Not only will he see big minutes at even-strength, but Subban (“A” points grade) is also listed on the top power-play which includes the entire top line of forwards for Nashville. The Avalanche were short-handed on the road the 7th-most times this season, so Subban could find himself with a lot of 5v4 time tonight, making him a steal at a sub-$5K price tag on DraftKings.
Tyler Johnson ($5,000 DK/$4,900 FD)
“Johnson’s team total is amongst the highest on the night, has a good even-strength matchup, and gets time on the power-play.”
Johnson (“B” DK value), like many others on this slate, is underpriced for his matchup tonight against Taylor Hall and the Devils. The Hall line has allowed almost 32 Scoring Chances Against per 60 minutes and 12.9 High-Danger Chances Against per 60 minutes this season, and Johnson’s line has been spectacular at even-strength. Add in the power-play time against a sub-80% road penalty-kill for the Devils, and Johnson is a bargain at his price on both sites.
Boone Jenner ($4,300 DK/$4,400 FD)
“The Blue Jackets have the highest implied total for any of the road teams playing tonight, and Jenner’s line will get a high-event matchup tonight.”
Jenner quietly created a lot of offense over the last 10 games of the season for the Blue Jackets, leading them in shot attempts (50) and High-Danger Chances (18). He should see a lot of the Ovechkin line at even-strength, which allows the most High-Danger Chances Against per 60 minutes of any line on the slate at 14.3. Jenner should be low-owned in tournaments but makes for a nice value tonight.
