NHL DFS Picks Today: Expensive Devils Second Line Offers Elite Leverage (March 7)

When it comes to daily fantasy sports (DFS), having access to the right tools and projections can be the difference between winning and losing. Today, we’ll be using three tools from stokastic.com to provide NHL DFS picks for tonight’s slate: NHL DFS projections, NHL DFS ownership projections and Top Stacks Tool.

NHL DFS Picks & Top Stacks | March 7

Top Stacks

New Jersey Devils Line 2: Timo Meier – Jack Hughes – Jesper Bratt

This line has a 12.5% chance of being a top-2 stack in the Top Stacks Tool, and they are expected to be low-owned on DraftKings due to their expensive price. Additionally, they will avoid the Auston Matthews line at five-on-five in their home matchup against the Maple Leafs.

Pittsburgh Penguins Line 2: Jason Zucker – Evgeni Malkin – Bryan Rust

Pittsburgh’s second line has a great five-on-five matchup against the depth lines of the Columbus Blue Jackets, and it looks to be coming in lower owned than the top line of Jake Guentzel, Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell due to the Penguins’ 4.0 implied Vegas total. The second line is one of the strongest even-strength lines on the slate, with over 4.0 expected goals for per 60 minutes, making them a great option for both cash games and tournaments.

Defensemen

Cale Makar, Colorado Avalanche

Makar is one of the elite defensemen on the slate. He played his normal allotment of minutes in his first couple games back from injury and is the top power play quarterback for an Avalanche team with a 4.0 implied total. He has a high projected score in Stokastic’s NHL DFS projections and is a strong play tonight if you can afford him for your lineups.

Erik Gudbranson, Columbus Blue Jackets

Gudbranson is one of the top value defensemen. He has been playing upwards of 25 minutes per game lately, has one of the highest blocks rates on the slate and should have plenty of opportunities tonight on the road against the Penguins, who will be skating in the Blue Jackets’ zone for most of the game. Gudbranson is one of the top values on the slate and has a solid floor for his cheap price, as the three-blocks bonus on DraftKings is well within reach tonight.

Goalie

Filip Gustavsson, Minnesota Wild

Gustavsson is in play in all formats coming off a shutout against this same Calgary team he will be facing tonight. The Flames are playing on a road back-to-back, and they have been one of the highest shot-volume teams in the league since Jan. 1. However, they only have a 2.6 implied total against Gustavsson, and he is projected for over 30 saves according to the Stokastic NHL DFS projections. He is a home favorite and should see plenty of volume for under $8,000 on DraftKings.
