NHL DFS Picks: Top Stacks for DraftKings & FanDuel | March 20

NHL DFS Picks: Center

Tomas Hertl (STL vs SJ)

DraftKings – $4,200

FanDuel – $5,800

One thing to do here is to just roster Hertl at home against a St. Louis team that will have growing pains getting used to being relatively healthy. Friday night’s game was far lower-scoring than expected. The back end of a back-to-back should yield more quality scoring chances and the likelihood of more goals. Goaltending cannot be that good two nights in a row in this miniseries, right?

Both teams give up a lot of goals and the Blues are 25th on the penalty kill. Tyler Bozak and company will be tested by the San Jose man advantage, which is better than its 20th ranking at 19.3%.

Adam Henrique versus Arizona remains a possibility as the Anaheim center has points in his last two games and has looked better since he was placed on waivers.

Connor McDavid (WPG vs EDM)

DraftKings – $9,100

FanDuel – $9,200

McDavid never left! Even in a low-scoring game, McDavid scored both goals, nearly hit the shot bonus, and created a ton of havoc in close. The price is daunting and with a nine-game slate, stacking will be interesting given the opportunities with the early games. Winnipeg allows over three goals a game on the road and has shown it does not have the defensive corps to keep up with McDavid.

If one wants to stack and play a little different, see who plays as the third forward on the McDavid line and stick them in. Do not hesitate. Do not think about it. Just do it. When a player like McDavid can create 4-5 scoring chances just by showing up, someone is going to have opportunity to score — whether it is McDavid or assist potential.

There is a little inkling to use Auston Matthews but the thought process may be to pivot down and look at Toronto’s second line. Just make sure that there are no line shifts beforehand.

NHL DFS Picks: Winger

Alexander Radulov (DET vs DAL)

DraftKings – $6,700

FanDuel – $5,700

One of my favorite ideas on Saturday night is the concept of using risk and reward. Radulov carries less risk than typical because of how rested he is due to a lower-body injury suffered early last month. Going up against one of the worst penalty kills and a team they just lost to should stoke some anger and more goal-scoring chances. Radulov had his opportunities but was thwarted by Jonathan Bernier twice. Bernier will not be in net for Detroit tonight due to an injury.

The shot volume is still solid, producing four shots per game and the shot bonus is in play — plus this is a matchup against the Red Wings. Thomas Greiss is just not the same in Detroit as he was on Long Island/Brooklyn. Playing Dallas and even some cheaper wingers in their middle-six is not a bad idea on Saturday.

Latest NHL DFS Content

Oliver Bjorkstrand (CAR vs CBJ)

DraftKings – $4,800

FanDuel – $6,000

It is always worrisome when recommending Bjorkstrand but the winger is producing at a point-per-game clip over his last ten games and is averaging nearly three shots per night. Also, the Columbus forward has around three scoring chances a night and is seeing a little more power-play time per game. Carolina can give up some goals and Bjorkstrand is one of the few wingers that has the power and speed to get by defensemen like Dougie Hamilton and Brett Pesce. That is not very easy to do. Furthermore, there are a few countermeasures here.

The idea remains to explore and be aggressive. Carolina’s wingers, particularly Andrei Svechnikov and Nino Niederreiter could be an option tonight. Neither are at the highest-priced tier either. By the way, a forward like Bjorkstrand is odd — especially Bjorkstrand who does have five assists in four meetings versus the Hurricanes.

NHL DFS Picks: Defense

Ivan Provorov (NYI vs. PHI)

DraftKings – $4,300

FanDuel – $5,200

With Provorov’s price falling drastically on DraftKings, Ivan Provorov almost has to be played on Saturday evening. The New York Islanders have become a little unstable with their defense of late due to injuries and some poor play. Philadelphia has become much the same with the Flyers giving up goals in bunches two games in a row. The team defense and goaltending of the Flyers has forced Provorov’s floor upward of late and the result has been double-digit point potential on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

For better or for worse, Provorov will be a great play on DraftKings, in particular, until his price trends back upward after a big downward drop. With this nine-game slate, Jakob Chychrun remains an option. Also, Darnell Nurse is an all-floor type of player from Edmonton in the same price-tier.

Some still may look at Jeff Petry who keeps finding ways to create offense while being surrounded by defensemen who continue to frustrate fantasy owners and Montreal fans alike. Vancouver defensemen may get more shots through than usual. Is this the night to take a gander at Travis Hamonic? It’s possible especially for value.

Adam Fox (WSH vs NYR)

DraftKings – $5,300

FanDuel – $5,100

Fox is a nice one-off from the New York Rangers or pair him with a Pavel Buchnevich perhaps to take a high-risk approach on Saturday night. While both are rather hot offensively, it is time to take advantage. Remember, Washington’s defensive middle was gauged heavily even on Friday night. If the Rangers tilt play that much again, they may score three or four goals instead of one.

For another alternative, Ryan Pulock is out there from the New York Islanders. Also, John Carlson against Keith Kinkaid possibly will be quite the matchup. It may be worth a look to see who is confirmed as goaltender before rostering any Washington players.

Top Goalies

David Rittich (TOR vs CGY)

DraftKings – $7,100

FanDuel – $7,400

This is a good matchup for Rittich again. Toronto did beat him the last time in Toronto but Rittich was very good in goal allowing just two goals. He stopped 71-of-73 shots against the Maple Leafs including one shutout. What is weird is he looked pretty solid in two of the three games versus Ottawa recently. All one may need is solid if Rittich can get to the 35-save bonus on DraftKings. It could he close honestly even with Darryl Sutter coaching the Calgary Flames.

What happened on Thursday night as an aberration. obviously Jake Oettinger will keep getting starts and has a great chance of winning for Dallas. Again, we went with value here on Saturday night.

Top Stacks

EDM1: McDavid-Draisaitl-Chiasson?

It does not matter here. One can use a defensive kicker or two in Adam Larsson or even Tyson Barrie/Darnell Nurse on Saturday versus the 25th-ranked penalty kill in the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets are 27th in unblocked shot attempts and allow over three goals a game on the road. We say it again for emphasis.

As always, there will be some more line stacking options around warmups. Also, watch out for COVID after the afternoon Boston-Buffalo game was canceled. Just be conscious of it.

NYI2: Nelson – Beauvillier – Bailey

There are probably two Islander lines in play tonight, but the second line has been great since Beauvillier returned, posting a near 60% expected-goal share and 80-plus% actual-goal share. As mentioned, this line matching has given these guys some more ice time, as Bailey has gained about a minute of ice time a game over the last 10 contests. They are cheap as well, which makes them a nice filler for the more expensive stacks elsewhere. With the ten game slate, ownership could still be high but do watch to see with Lee out, if Trotz changes up the lines a bit in warmups.
