The biggest game on the slate

Dallas @ St. Louis, 3 PM EDT – After one game of this series, it is clear that this will be a grinding series. No one can pull too far ahead it would seem as both teams are pretty evenly matched. It makes for tight-checking and competitive hockey games. This is not to say there will be no offensive outbursts in this series.

If the moneyline stays around +120 to +125 for Dallas, that would be a good number to bet. The Stars manage to keep games close for the most part and are able to chip away on the road better than most teams. If they get too far behind, Dallas does not quite have the firepower to make a dramatic comeback. The one question is what happens to the St. Louis moneyline. Does that stretch out to say -145 to -150? It is possible but the number could come back to -135 to -140 as well.

The over/under projects to stay at 5. The currently expected goalie matchup is again Jordan Binnington versus Ben Bishop. A key matchup once again will be the Ryan O’Reilly versus the Tyler Seguin line (watch to see how Craig Berube tries to switch that up as well). St. Louis survived this matchup more than winning it honestly. Even a slight fluctuation changes the betting pattern for this game.

Games Against the Spread

Columbus (+120) @ Boston  – Again, Columbus at +120 or even +125 is a bet which must be explored. The Blue Jackets showed flashes of being the better team perhaps even in spite of all the rust. Sergei Bobrovsky was good in the net but did get caught a little on the overtime goal. If Columbus can find its power play touch at all, then that makes this game even easier. Boston showed a vulnerability in this game similar to the Toronto series but Columbus could not capitalize. Seth Jones and Zach Werenski must play better as Columbus’s top defensemen. They must control play when they can and effectively create chances plus hit the net. The top line must finish opportunities and not hit the posts so often.

A better effort should be expected from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday evening and some books have crept up to +125 for Columbus.

Notable Score And Other Props

So, the puckline for St. Louis stands at +210 (-1.5 goals). Their 60-minute line is still at +110 at least which is quite enticing. Also, Columbus scoring three or four goals sits right at +150. The number of total goals at 4 or 5 is a robust but risky +170. That five is dangerously close even with an over/under of 5.5. The Columbus 60-minute line is up to +185. That may be tempting enough to take in a parlay or separately.
